Edit
- The title of the episode comes from Douglas Adams's So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish, in which "The Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything" is 42; the episode number.
- The flying cards include Cthulhu, Predator, Samurai Jack, and Manny Calavera from Grim Fandango.
- "Arthur's Theme" by Christopher Cross plays when Veronica Ishtar dies (thus explaining why the song reminds Odion of her in the previous episode).
- Marik's initiation procedure includes being forced to watch Beverly Hills Chihuahua.
- Mega-Ultra Chicken's lines are a reference to dialogue from the Disney adaptation of Aladdin: "Infidels! You have touched the forbidden treasure! Now you'll never again see the light of day!"
- "Brain Damage" by Pink Floyd plays when Odion is struck by lightning.
- As explicitly noted in the episode, Marik's line "I am Kira" is a reference to the series Death Note.
- At Marik's transformation to Melvin, Bear McCreary's adaptation of "All Along the Watchtower" plays, a reference to the series Battlestar Galactica of which LittleKuriboh is a fan.
- When Kaiba smiles the second time in this episode, the caption reads "+9001 dead puppies". This is a reference the famous DragonBall Z mashup video "It's Over 9000!!!". Also in DragonBall Z Abridged by TeamFourStar, Goku's power level was 9001 when he faced Nappa and Vegeta.
- The bottom line in LittleKuriboh's episode description reads 'Bring back Team Four Star' backwards.
- The stinger is a sound clip from Clerks:The Animated Series with a Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's scene.
