Yu-Gi-Oh! GX - Episode 169

Axel faces off against Trueman in Domino City. Early into the duel, Trueman takes the appearance of Axel's father, but, despite acting the same way his real father did, Axel is initially unfazed. However, Trueman then starts preying on a traumatic experience from when Axel was a little kid, and both of his parents were caught in a burning car. Trueman activates a Spell Card, The Undecided One (which symbolizes Axel's confusion on which parent he will save), the spell card gives Axel a choice which of his monsters will not not be destroyed by the card's effect. Notably, one of his monster symbolizes his father while the other one symbolizes his mother. Axel was caught in a situation where he could only save one parent and chose to save his father, but was plagued by the guilt of leaving his mother. Axel loses the duel and comes to decide that he should have died with both of his parents as opposed to saving one of them. Ironically, it's later revealed that his mother survived as Axel's dad went back and saved his mother. Trueman, appearing as Axel, erases the memory of Axel's existence from his parents.

Axel VS Trueman

Axel's turn

• Summons Volcanic Slicer (1800/1200) in attack position
• Activates Volcanic Slicer's ability to inflict 500 to Trueman (Trueman 3500)
• Sets a card

Trueman's turn

• Summons Dark Archetype (1400/400) in attack position
• Attacks Volcanic Slicer (Trueman 3100)
• Dark Archetype's effect activates. Trueman discards a Level 3 monster (Volcanic Blaster) to Special Summon Dark Psycho Eye (400/1100) in attack position
• Axel activates Buster Trap, destroying Dark Psycho Eye and ending the Battle Phase
• Dark Psycho Eye's effect activates, taking control of Volcanic Slicer
• At this point, Axel is tricked into the illusion that he is dueling his father. This is so Trueman can discover his darkness of heart
• Trueman activates Volcanic Slicer's effect, inflicting 500 damage to Axel (Axel 3500)
• Sets a card
• Volcanic Slicer returns to Axel's field during the End Phase

Axel's turn

• Attacks directly with Volcanic Slicer
• "Axel's dad" activates Firewall, removing Volcanic Blaster to negate the attack

"Axel's dad's" turn

• Pays 500 LP to keep Firewall on the field ("Axel's dad" 2600)
• Activates Flame Wall, which negates all damage from Axel's Spell, Trap and Monster cards
• Activates Volcanic Wall, discarding the top three cards of his Deck (Volcanic Rat, Fire Cyclone, and Volcanic Shell) and inflicting 500 damage to Axel for each Pyro-type monster discarded (Axel 2500)

Axel's turn

• Activates Blaze Accelerator
• Tributes Blaze Accelerator to activate [{Tri-Blaze Accelerator]]
• Tributes Tri-Blaze Accelerator to Special Summon Volcanic Doomfire (3000/1800)
• Attacks directly with Volcanic Slicer and Volcanic Doomfire
• "Axel's dad" removes Volcanic Rat and Volcanic Shell from play to negate the attacks
• Sets two cards

"Axel's dad's" turn

• Pays 500 LP to keep Firewall on the field ("Axel's dad" 2100)
• Tributes Volcanic Slicer on Axel's side to Special Summon Volcanic Queen (2500/1200) to Axel's field
• Activates The Unselected One, making Axel keep one monster and destroy all other cards, then "Axel's dad" gets a monster that was destroyed
• Axel keeps Volcanic Doomfire, and "Axel's dad" takes control of Volcanic Queen
• Activates Volcanic Wall's effect, discarding three cards from the top of his Deck (Volcanic Hammerer, Bonfire, and Volcanic Rat) to inflict 500 damage to Axel for each Pyro-type monster discarded (Axel 1500)
• Activates Volcanic Queen's effect, tributing Volcanic Wall to inflict 1000 damage to Axel (Axel 500)
• Takes 1000 damage due to Volcanic Queen's effect during the End Phase ("Axel's dad" 1100)

Axel's turn

• Activates Big Volcano, discarding Volcanic Scattershot to Special Summon Volcanic Rat (500/500) and Volcanic Hammerer (2400/1500) in defense position
• Volcanic Scattershot's effect inflicts 500 damage to "Axel's dad" ("Axel's dad" 600)
• Attacks Volcanic Queen
• "Axel's dad" activates Volcanic Curse, increasing Volcanic Queen's ATK by the number of Pyro-type monsters in both Graveyard's x 500 (3500/1200) (Axel 0)
• Axel succumbs to his darkness and Trueman wins
