"The Key Factor", known as "Judai VS The Terror of the Laser Satellite" in the Japanese version, is the ninety-ninth episode of the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX anime. It aired in Japan on August 23, 2006, and in the US on February 15, 2007.
The Light of Destruction begins to put its plan into motion to destroy Earth—but it discovers that its vessel, Sartorius, has passed the keys to Prince Ojin's satellite on to Jaden Yuki and Aster Phoenix. Now, if the Light wants to carry out its mission, it must first defeat both Duelists in a Duel, and it starts with Jaden.
Summary
Edit
Due to Jaden Yuki's victories over Alexis Rhodes (freed from Sartorius's influence) and Dr. Eisenstein, and Aster Phoenix's victory over The D (lost in the explosion of his yacht), the Light of Destruction steps up its plans to destroy Earth. It fragments once again from Sartorius's body and possesses Prince Ojin, who challenges Jaden to a Duel for control of his key to SORA.
While Jaden manages to survive Ojin's One Turn Kill and rally his "Elemental Heroes" to destroy one of Ojin's "Satellite Cannons", the Prince merely shrugs this off as a minor setback and reveals the most powerful monster his Deck can produce—the "Satellite Laser Balsam", a "Satellite" monster with a Piercing effect, and one that would gain 3000 attack points with each of Ojin's passing turns. But even this is not enough to win Ojin the Duel, as Jaden is able to mount a comeback with "Change of Hero - Reflector Ray".
Unfortunately, although Ojin has been defeated, the Light of Destruction (still possessing Sartorius) has not abandoned its goal. Now, it decides to target Aster and claim his key, in an ultimate attempt to claim both, gain full control of SORA, and make the world "see the light".
Featured Duel
Edit
Turn 1: Jaden
- Summons "Elemental Hero Sparkman" (1600/1400) in Attack Position.
- Sets a card
Turn 2: Ojin
- Sets a card.
- Activates the Quick-Play Spell Card "Trap Booster": Ojin discards 1 card ("Satellite Cannon") to the Graveyard; now, he can activate a Trap Card directly from his hand. He targets the Continuous Trap Card "Call of the Haunted".
- Due to the effect of "Call of the Haunted", Ojin can Special Summon a monster from his Graveyard, in Attack Position. Ojin targets "Satellite Cannon" (0/0). If "Satellite Cannon" is destroyed, "Call of the Haunted" will be destroyed, and if "Call of the Haunted" leaves the field, "Satellite Cannon" will be destroyed.
- While on the field, any "Satellite Cannon" will gain 1000 ATK during each of Ojin's End Phases, and none of them can be destroyed in battle if they battle a monster below Level 8, but Damage calculation is applied normally. If any "Satellite Cannon" attacks, its ATK will return to 0 after damage calculation.
- Activates the Quick-Play Spell Card "Inferno Reckless Summon": As Ojin Special Summoned a monster with an ATK weaker than 1500 while Jaden also controlled a monster, "Inferno Reckless Summon" allows both players to Special Summon, from their hand(s), Deck(s), and Graveyard(s), up to 2 more copies of the same monster as they have on the field.
- Due to "Inferno Reckless Summon", Ojin Special Summons 2 more "Satellite Cannon"s (0/0 each) in Attack Position.
- Due to "Inferno Reckless Summon", Ojin is allowed to check Jaden's Deck for any other copies of "Elemental Hero Sparkman", but Jaden currently has no more copies of "Sparkman" in his Deck or hand.
- Activates the Normal Spell Card "Charge": All face-up "Satellite Cannon"s Ojin controls gain 2000 ATK (0 → 2000/0 each).
- Uses 1 "Satellite Cannon" to attack and destroy "Elemental Hero Sparkman" (Jaden: 4000 → 3600 LP). ("Satellite Cannon" #1: 2000 → 0/0)
- Uses the other 2 "Satellite Cannons" to attack Jaden directly; 1 attack resolves successfully (Jaden: 3600 → 1600 LP) ("Satellite Cannon" #2 and #3: 2000 → 0/0).
- Jaden activates the Normal Trap Card "Hero Spirit": Since an "Elemental Hero" monster he controlled was destroyed in battle and sent to the Graveyard, the Battle Damage from the third "Satellite Cannon" is reduced to 0.
- Ends his turn ("Satellite Cannon"s: 0 → 1000/0).
Turn 3: Jaden
- Activates the Normal Spell Card "Polymerization": He sends, from his hand to the Graveyard, Elemental Heroes "Avian" and "Burstinatrix" to Fusion Summon "Elemental Hero Flame Wingman" (2100/1200) in Attack Position.
- "Flame Wingman" attacks 1 of Ojin's "Satellite Cannon"s, with "Satellite Cannon" not being destroyed in battle, since "Flame Wingman" is a monster below Level 8, but damage calculation is still applied (Ojin: 4000 → 2900 LP).
- Sets a card.
Turn 4: Ojin
- Activates the Normal Spell Card "Union Attack": 1 "Satellite Cannon" gains ATK equal to the combined ATK of the other 2 "Satellite Cannons" (1000 → 3000/0), but if the monster affected by "Union Attack" attacks, Jaden takes no Battle Damage, and no other Attack Position monsters Ojin controls can attack.
- "Satellite Cannon" attacks and destroys "Flame Wingman" ("Satellite Cannon" #1: 3000 → 0/0).
- Ends his turn ("Satellite Cannon" #1: 0 → 1000/0; "Satellite Cannon" #2 and #3: 1000 → 2000/0).
Turn 5: Jaden
- Activates the Normal Spell Card "Miracle Fusion": Jaden can target, from his side of the field or the Graveyard. Fusion Material Monsters that Fusion Summon an "Elemental Hero" Fusion Monster, and remove them from play to Special Summon that Fusion Monster. He targets Elemental Heroes "Flame Wingman" and "Sparkman" in his Graveyard and removes them from play to Fusion Summon "Elemental Hero Shining Flare Wingman" (2500/2100) in Attack Position.
- "Elemental Hero Shining Flare Wingman" gains 300 additional ATK for every "Elemental Hero" monster in Jaden's Graveyard, and there are currently 2 (2500 → 2800 → 3100/2100).
- "Elemental Hero Shining Flare Wingman" attacks the "Satellite Cannon" with 1000 ATK, destroying it (Ojin: 2900 → 800 LP).
- As the "Satellite Cannon" summoned with "Call of the Haunted" is destroyed, "Call of the Haunted" is also destroyed.
- Since "Satellite Cannon's" ATK was originally 0 when it was sent to the Graveyard, Ojin takes no Effect Damage from "Shining Flare Wingman's" effect.
- Ojin activates the Normal Trap Card "Debris Station": His 2 remaining "Satellite Cannon"s are sent to the Graveyard so he can Fusion Summon "Satellite Laser Balsam" (0/2000) in Attack Position.
- Due to "Debris Station", "Satellite Laser Balsam" gains 3000 ATK (0 → 3000/2000)
- While on the field, "Satellite Laser Balsam" will gain 3000 ATK during each of Ojin's End Phases, and it cannot be destroyed in battle if it battles a monster Level 10 or below, but Damage calculation is applied normally. Furthermore, it can inflict Piercing damage to Jaden if it attacks a Defense Position monster, but its ATK will return to 0 after damage calculation.
Turn 6: Ojin
- Activates the Quick-Play Spell Card "Book of Moon": 1 face-up monster is switched to face-down Defense Position; Ojin targets "Elemental Hero Shining Flare Wingman".
- "Satellite Laser Balsam" attacks and destroys "Shining Flare Wingman" (Jaden: 1600 → 700 LP) ("Satellite Laser Balsam": 3000 → 0/2000).
- Jaden activates the Normal Trap Card "Change of Hero - Reflector Ray": Since an "Elemental Hero" Fusion Monster was destroyed in battle and sent to the Graveyard, Ojin takes 300 effect damage x the Level of the destroyed monster. Since "Shining Flare Wingman" was Level 8, Ojin takes 2400 damage (Ojin: 800 → 0 LP)
- Jaden wins.
