"Against All Odds", known as "The Looming Giant Emperor! Machine Emperor Grannel" in the Japanese version, is the one-hundred-and-thirty-third episode of Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's anime. It first aired in Japan on October 27, 2010 and in the United States on August 27, 2011.

Jack is defeated when "Meklord Emperor Granel" absorbs "Red Nova Dragon", causing its ATK to become 15500. In the presence of that unbelievable power, Team 5D's is dominated by a feeling of despair. And entering the battle in the midst of all that is Crow.

Crow resolves himself to bet his life on his fight, while he Summons the card he prepared for the Anti-Synchro "Meklord Emperor" tactics of his opponent, "Blackwing - Aurora the Northern Lights". He combines it with a "Steam Token" and "Blackwing Armor Master" to try to terminate "Granel"; but Jakob reveals that using the effects of "Granel Attack" & "Granel Guard", he can use "Red Nova Dragon" in battle. Crow begins stalling while trying to find a strategy against "Granel"; but Crow, not having any way to defeat him, is forced to leave two cards for Yusei and lose.

Turn 11: Crow
(Crow's SPC: 10; Jakob's SPC: 10) Crow activates the effect of "Speed World 2", removing ten Speed Counters (Crow's SPC 10 → 0) to destroy "Meklord Emperor Granel". Jakob activates his face-down "Infinity Wall", negating all effects that would destroy his monsters this turn as he controls a face-up "Meklord Emperor" monster. Crow Normal Summon "Blackwing - Steam the Cloak" (800/???) in Attack Position. As he controls another "Blackwing" monster, he Special Summons "Blackwing - Bora the Spear" (1700/1000) from his hand in Attack Position via its own effect. He removes his two monsters from play to Special Summon "Blackwing - Aurora the Northern Lights" (?/0) from his hand in Attack Position from his hand via its own effect. Its Level becomes the combined Level of the two removed monsters - 10. As "Steam the Invisibility Cloak" has left the field, its effect activates, Special Summoning a "Steam Token" (100/100). Crow activates the effect of "Aurora the Northern Lights", removing from play the Level 7 "Blackwing Armor Master" from his Extra Deck, changing the Level, ATK, effect and name of itself to that of "Armor Master". "Aurora" attacks "Meklord Emperor Granel", but Jakob activates the effect of "Granel Guard", treating the "Red Nova Dragon" equipped to "Granel" as a face-up Attack Position monster (3000/2500) and changing the attack target to it. Crow activates the effect of "Aurora" treated as "Armor Master" to place a Wedge Counter on "Red Nova Dragon", but it is not treated as a monster outside of the Damage Step, so it cannot be given a counter. Crow Sets two cards. At the End Phase, the "Steam Token" destroys itself via its own effect.

Turn 12: Jakob
(Crow's SPC: 1; Jakob's SPC: 11) Jakob activates the effect of "Speed World 2", destroying "Aurora the Northern Lights" (Jakob's SPC 11 → 1). "Meklord Emperor Granel attacks directly, but as Jakob did, Crow Special Summons "Blackwing - Ghibli the Searing Wind" (0/1600) from his hand in Defense Position via its own effect. A replay occurs and "Granel" attacks and destroys "Ghibli". As a Winged Beast-Type monster with 1000 or less ATK as destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard, Crow activates his face-down "Blackwing Revenge", Special Summoning two "Blackwing - Black Crest Tokens" (0/800) in Defense Position. He then activates his face-down "Blackboost", drawing two cards as he controls two or more "Blackwing" monsters. Jakob activates the effect of "Granel Attack", allowing the "Red Nova Dragon" equipped to "Meklord Emperor Granel" to be treated as a monster in Jakob's Spell & Trap Card Zone that can attack direct. It attacks a "Black Crest Token" and Crow takes damage from its piercing effect (Crow 4000 → 1300). Crow Sets a card.

Turn 13: Crow
(Crow's SPC: 2; Jakob's SPC: 2) Crow Tributes his "Black Crest Token" to Normal Summon "Blackwing - Hillen the Tengu-wind" (0/2300) in Defense Position. Crow Sets two cards.

Turn 14: Jakob
(Crow's SPC: 3; Jakob's SPC: 3) "Red Nova Dragon" attacks "Hillen", inflicting piercing damage (Crow 1300 → 100). "Meklord Emperor Granel" attacks directly (100 → 0), with Crow activating the effect of "Hillen" as it enters the Graveyard, Special Summoning it (0/2600) and "Ghibli the Searing Wind" from his Graveyard (0/1600). He then activates his face-down "Urgent Tuning", tuning the Level 5 Tuner monster "Hillen" with the Level 3 "Ghibli" to Synchro Summon "Black-Winged Dragon (2800/1600) in Defense Position.

Mistakes Edit

• In the previous episode, Primo is sitting to Lester's left. In this episode, they mysteriously switch places. In the next episode, they switch places again.
• In one shot of "Meklord Emperor Granel", the clouds in the background are moving the wrong way.
