Featured Duel: Bolton vs. Crow Hogan
Edit
Crow's turn
(Bolton's SPC : 3; Crow's SPC : 3)
Crow draws. He then sets "Trap Stun", intending to use it next turn to negate the effects of "Whiteout" for one turn. Crow then Normal Summons "Blackwing - Mistral the Silver Shield" (100/1800) in Defense Position and ends his turn.
Bolton's turn
(Bolton's SPC : 4; Crow's SPC : 4)
Bolton draws. He then Normal Summons "White Warrior - Snow the Rope Dart" (0/0) in Attack Position. Due to the effect of "White Warrior - Snow the Rope Dart", it gains 100 ATK for each card on the field. There are seven cards on the field, so "Snow the Rope Dart" gains 700 ATK ("Snow the Rope Dart": 0 → 700/0). "White Warrior - Snow the Rope Dart" attacks Crow directly via its own effect. (Crow 3100 → 2400 Life Points). Since a monster controlled by Bolton inflicted Battle Damage via a direct attack, the effect of "White Warrior - Fog the Treasure Shield" activates, allowing Bolton to destroy Crow's set card "Trap Stun". ("Snow the Rope Dart": 700 → 600/0). Bolton ends his turn.
Crow's turn
(Bolton's SPC : 5; Crow's SPC : 5)
Crow draws. He then Normal Summons "Blackwing - Shura the Blue Flame" (1800/1200) in Attack Position ("Snow the Rope Dart": 600 → 700/0). Crow then tunes his two monsters together to Synchro Summon "Blackwing Armed Wing" (2300/1000) in Attack Position ("Snow the Rope Dart": 700 → 600/0). "Blackwing Armed Wing" attacks "Snow the Rope Dart", but Bolton activates "White Warrior - Snow the Rope Dart's" effect, returning it to his hand as it was selected as an attack target. A replay occurs, and Crow uses "Blackwing Armed Wing" to attack "White Warrior - Fog the Treasure Shield" instead. Due to the effect of "Blackwing Armed Wing", it gains 500 ATK during the Damage Step only ("Blackwing Armed Wing": 2300 → 2800/1000). "Blackwing Armed Wing" then destroys "Fog the Treasure Shield". "Blackwing Armed Wing" then inflicts piercing damage to Bolton (Bolton 4000 → 3200 Life Points). After the Damage Step, the ATK of "Blackwing Armed Wing" goes back to normal ("Blackwing Armed Wing": 2800 → 2300/1000). Crow then sets 1 card and ends his turn. At the End Phase, the effect of "Sacred Arrow" activates (Bolton 3200 → 2800 Life Points).
Bolton's turn
(Bolton's SPC : 6; Crow's SPC : 6)
Bolton draws. He then Normal Summons "White Warrior - Snow the Rope Dart" (0 → 600/0) in Attack Position. Bolton then tunes "White Warrior - Hail the Iron Hammer" with "White Warrior - Snow the Rope Dart" to Synchro Summon "Crimson Mefist" (2800/1300) in Attack Position. Bolton then activates the effect of "Crimson Mefist", inflicting 300 damage to Crow for each card he has on his field. Crow controls two cards, so he takes 600 damage (Crow 2400 → 1800 Life Points). "Crimson Mefist" then attacks and "Blackwing Armed Wing" (Crow 1800 → 1300 Life Points). Bolton ends his turn. At the End Phase, the effect of "Sacred Arrow" activates (Crow 1300 → 900 Life Points).
Crow's turn
(Bolton's SPC : 7; Crow's SPC : 7)
Crow draws. He then activates Speed World 2's effect, removing 7 Speed Counters (Crow's SPC 7 → 0) to draw 1 card(it's "Blackwing - Jetstream the Blue Sky"). He then Normal Summons "Blackwing - Kochi the Daybreak" (700/1500) in Defense Position. Crow then sets 1 card. This activates the effect of "Crimson Mefist", inflicting 300 damage to Crow (Crow 900 → 600 Life Points). Crow ends his turn.
Bolton's turn
(Bolton's SPC : 8; Crow's SPC : 1)
Bolton draws. He then prepares to activate "Crimson Mefist's" effect which will inflict 900 damage to Crow since he controls three cards, but Crow activates "Down Burst", setting Bolton's "White Out" and "Sacred Arrow". Bolton activates the effect of "Crimson Mefist", but Crow activates "Delta Crow - Anti Reverse", destroying both of Bolton's set Spell/Traps. The effect of "Crimson Mefist" continues, but since Crow now controls only one card, he only takes 300 damage (Crow 600 → 300 Life Points). Bolton Normal Summons "White Warrior - Sleet the Morning Star" (0/0) in Attack Position. Bolton then Tributes "Sleet the Morning Star" to grant "Crimson Mefist" a new ability. Now if "Crimson Mefist" destroys a monster in battle, Crow will take damage equal to half the ATK of "Crimson Mefist". "Crimson Mefist" attacks "Blackwing - Kochi the Daybreak", but Crow activates the effect of "Blackwing - Jetstream the Blue Sky", sending it from his hand to the Graveyard in order to prevent "Kochi the Daybreak" from being destroyed by the attack and to reduce all the Battle Damage from the attack to 0. Bolton Sets 1 card and ends his turn.
Crow's turn
(Bolton's SPC : 9; Crow's SPC : 2)
Crow draws. He then Normal Summons "Blackwing - Bora the Spear" (1700/800) in Attack Position. He then tunes "Blackwing - Bora the Spear" with "Blackwing - Kochi the Daybreak" to Synchro Summon "Black-Winged Dragon" (2800/1600) in Attack Position. Since Crow summoned a Synchro Monster, Bolton activates "Synchro Rivalry". Now monsters can't be destroyed in battle this turn. Crow activates "Speed Spell - Angel Baton", drawing 2 cards from his Deck and sending "Blackwing - Zephyros the Elite" from his hand to the Graveyard. He then sets "Blackwing - Bombardment". This activates the effect of "Crimson Mefist" effect, but the effect of "Black-Winged Dragon" activates in response, reducing the damage to 0 and decreasing its own ATK by the damage nullified ("Black-Winged Dragon": 2800 → 2500/1600) (In the anime, this is "Black-Winged Dragon's" effect). Crow then activates the effect of "Blackwing - Zephyros the Elite", returning "Blackwing - Bombardment" to his hand in order to Special Summon "Zephyros the Elite" from the Graveyard in Attack Position (1600/1000) and take 400 damage. The effect of "Black-Winged Dragon" then activates in response ("Black-Winged Dragon": 2500 → 2100/1600). Crow sets "Blackwing - Bombardment"(Delta Crow - Anti Reverse in the dub). This activates the effect of "Blackwing - Zephyros the Elite", destroying it. "Crimson Mefist's" effect activates, but "Black-Winged Dragon's" effect activates in response ("Black-Winged Dragon": 2100 → 1800/1600). Crow then activates the effect of "Zephyros the Elite", returning his set card to his hand, Special Summoning "Zephyros the Elite" (1600/1000) in Attack Position, and taking 400 damage. The effect of "Black-Winged Dragon" activates in response ("Black-Winged Dragon": 1800 → 1400/1600). Crow then sets "Blackwing - Bombardment". The effect of "Zephyros the Elite" activates, destroying itself. "Crimson Mefist's" effect activates, but the effect of "Black-Winged Dragon" activates in response ("Black-Winged Dragon": 1400 → 1100/1600). Crow then activates the effect of "Zephyros the Elite", returning his set card to his hand, Special Summoning "Zephyros the Elite" (1600/1000) in Attack Position, and taking 400 damage. The effect of "Black-Winged Dragon" activates in response ("Black-Winged Dragon": 1100 → 700/1600). Crow then sets "Blackwing - Bombardment". The effect of "Zephyros the Elite" activates, destroying itself. "Crimson Mefist's" effect activates, but the effect of "Black-Winged Dragon" activates in response ("Black-Winged Dragon": 700 → 400/1600). Crow then activates the effect of "Zephyros the Elite", returning his set card to his hand, Special Summoning "Zephyros the Elite" (1600/1000) in Attack Position, and taking 400 damage. The effect of "Black-Winged Dragon" activates in response ("Black-Winged Dragon": 400 → 0/1600). Crow then activates the second effect of "Black-Winged Dragon", increasing its ATK by the total damage its effect nullified and decreasing the ATK of "Crimson Mefist" by the exact same amount ("Black-Winged Dragon": 0 → 2800/1600) ("Crimson Mefist": 2800 → 0/1300). "Black-Winged Dragon" attacks "Crimson Mefist". Due to the effect of "Synchro Rivalry", "Crimson Mefist" is not destroyed, but Bolton still takes Battle Damage (Bolton 2800 → 0 Life Points)
Crow wins.
Trivia
Edit
- Crow attacked "Blood Mefist" with "Black-Winged Dragon", though this is only possible through the anime version of its effect. The real "Black-Winged Dragon" card has an additional burn effect added into the stat-change effect. The real-life card effect would have made it both impractical and impossible to have defeated Bolton with an attack, as his Life Points would have already been 0.
- Also, "Black-Winged Dragon's" anime effect that reduced its ATK by 300 (by negating "Blood Mefist's" effect) and then 400 (due to the effect of "Blackwing - Zephyrus the Elite"), is similar to its real-life counterpart, where it loses 700 ATK when a Black Feather Counter is placed on the card. (300 + 400 = 700)
- During the flashback in this episode, the old version of Duel Disk was showing there.
- To reduce the damage of Blood Mefist to 300 during Bolton's last turn, Crow would have had to activate both cards, "Delta Crow - Anti Reverse" and "Down Burst" (in that order), before Bolton activated Bllod Mefist's effect. Otherwise, both cards would still be on the field when "Blood Mefist"'s effect resolves. This is an anime suspense error that uses incorrect rules of Chaining (ie. build suspense by making it seem like he'll lose, have him counter and survive by the skin of his teeth, but he would have lost in reality). Though this could still be plausible if Crow had activated Down Burst during Bolton's Draw Phase or Standby Phase, and then activated Delta Crow - Anti Reverse in a separate Chain during the next Phase, including Chaining it to Blood Mefist's effect.
- In the anime:
- 1. Bolton activates "Blood Mefist"'s effect.
- 2. Crow activates "Down Burst", and it resolves apparently in the middle of a chain.
- 3. Crow activates "Delta Crow - Anti Reverse", and it resolves, destroying cards that should not have been facedown yet by the effect of "Down Burst".
- In the anime:
Differences in adaptations
Edit
- In the Japanese version, Bolton (Bolger) turned on Pearson after refusing investments from businessmen from New Domino because he thought Pearson was selfish & didn't care as much about completing the Duel Runner as he did being recognized for creating it himself. In the English dub, he knew that Pearson had selfless reasons for refusing but betrayed him anyway because he wanted the money.
- The whip Crow is hit by from "White Warrior - Snow the Rope Dart's" attack is removed.
- As in the previous episode, any scenes showing Pearson's "death" is cut.
- Scene's showing the blood coming from "Crimson Mefist's" mouth is cut.
- Once again, all of the gravestones in the cemetery are removed.
Errors in the dub
Edit
- When Crow Summons "Blackwing - Shura the Blue Flame", closer inspection of the card he drew beforehand was "Blackwing - Mistral the Silver Shield", which he then places on the field prior to "Shura"'s Summon.
- During the entire episode when "Blackwing Armed Wing" was mentioned, it was called "Blackwing Armor Master."
- In the English version, Bolton (Bolger) attacks Crow directly with "White Warrior - Snow the Rope Dart", but forgot to mention beforehand that "Snow the Rope Dart's" ability allows him to do this, even with Crow having "Blackwing - Mistral the Silver Shield" on his field.
