Notes
Edit
- When Joey attacks Zigfried's "Valkyrie Erste" with his "Red-Eyes B. Dragon" (second-to-last turn of the episode), the English Dub is poorly translated.
- In the Dub, Joey says "Fine. Alright Red-Eyes, you get rid of her! With Inferno Fire Blast", clearly referring to "Valkyrie Brünnhilde" (which had been previously attacked by Joey's "Maximum Six", but had avoided destruction thanks to its special effect).
- In the original Japanese, the attack target is correctly referred to as "the other Valkyrie" (i.e. Erste).
- The screen displaying the Duel results in the Japanese version reads 'Jyounouchi' instead of 'Jounouchi'.
- Results from other Quarter-Final Duels are displayed in this episode:
| Round 2: Quarter-Finals | |||
| Leon Wilson | beats | Ethan Shark | (LP: 4000 to zero) |
| Rebecca Hawkins | beats | Abe the Monkey Man | (LP: unknown) |
| Balfry Ginger | beats | Paul McGregor | (Duel result not shown) |
Featured Duel: Joey Wheeler vs. Zigfried Lloyd
Edit
Duel continues from previous episode.
Turn 6: Zigfried
- Zigfried has just activated Spell Card "Ride of The Valkyries", Special Summoning as many Valkyrie monsters as possible from his hand. He Special Summons 4 Valkyrie monsters from his hand: three "Valkyrie Zwei" (1600/ 1600) and one "Valkyrie Erste" (1600/1800) are summoned in Attack Position.
- The first "Valkyrie Zwei's" effect activates: Joey's "Jinzo" is destroyed.
- Zigfried activates "Valkyrie Erste's" effect: he targets "Jinzo" in Joey's Graveyard and removes it from play so that his monster's ATK becomes equal to that of Joey's monster until the End Phase ("Valkyrie Erste": 1600 → 2400 ATK).
- Uses his three "Valkyrie Zwei" and "Valkyrie Erste" to attack Joey directly, for an amount of damage totaling (1600 × 3) + 2400 = 7200
- Joey activates Quick-Play Spell Card "Hyper Refresh", doubling his Life Points before Damage Calculation since the combined ATK of all Attack Position monsters Zigfried controls is higher than his Life Points. The attacks continue, but Joey survives the attacks made by Zigfried's monsters (Joey 4000 → 8000 → 5600 → 4000 → 2400 → 800 Life Points).
- Zigfried Sets a card.
- On Zigfried's End Phase, all Valkyrie monsters that Zigfried summoned via "Ride of the Valkyries" return to his Deck.
Turn 7: Joey
- Joey draws.
- Normal Summons "Swordsman of Landstar" (500/1200) in Attack Position.
- Uses "Swordsman of Landstar" to attack Zigfried directly.
- Zigfried activates his Trap Card "Fricka's Mediation": he removes from play "Wotan's Judgment" from his Graveyard to negate the attack.
- Joey Sets a card("Graceful Dice").
Turn 8: Zigfried
- Zigfried Draws the Spell Card "Nibelung's Treasure" and subsequently activates it, choosing one Spell Card from his Deck and activating it on his opponent's side of the field.
- Zigfried uses the effect of "Nibelung's Treasure" to activate Equip Spell Card "Nibelung's Ring" from his Deck onto Joey's side of the field, equipping "Nibelung's Ring" onto Joey's "Swordsman of Landstar". It cannot attack or be Tributed and any effects it has will be negated. Also Joey will draw two cards during each of his Draw Phases instead of conducting a normal Draw during his Draw Phase. If Joey has drawn any monsters through the effect of "Nibelung's Ring", then he must send one of the drawn monsters to the Graveyard.
- Thanks to "Nibelung's Treasure's" secondary effect, Zigfried draws 5 cards.
- Activates three Continuous Spell Card's "Goddess Urd's Verdict", "Goddess Verdandi's Guidance", and "Goddess Skuld's Oracle". Now once a turn, Zigfried can use "Goddess Skuld's Oracle" to look at the top three cards of Joey's Deck and rearrange them to however he wishes. Also once a turn, Zigfried can use "Goddess Verdandi's Guidance" to guess the card type of the top card of Joey's Deck. If he is correct, Joey must set the top card of his Deck face-down on his side of the field. In addition, Zigfried can use the effect of "Goddess Urd's Verdict" once a turn to select one of Joey's set cards and guess what that card is. If he is correct, then the set card will be removed from play.
- Activates "Goddess Skuld's Oracle's" effect: Zigfried looks at the top three cards in Joey's deck(they were "Knight of Dark Dragons", "Panther Warrior" and "Dangerous Machine Type-6") and re-arranges them, putting "Panther Warrior" on top.
- Activates "Goddess Verdandi's Guidance's" effect: Zigfried guesses "Monster Card". It is correct. Joey Special Summons "Panther Warrior" in face-down Defense Position.
- Activates "Goddess Urd's Verdict's" effect: Zigfried selects Joey's face-down card and guesses "Panther Warrior". It is correct. "Panther Warrior" is removed from play.
- Activates "Goddess Verdandi's Guidance's" effect: Zigfried guesses "Monster Card". It is correct. Joey Special Summons "Panther Warrior" in face-down Defense Position.
Turn 9: Joey
- Instead of a normal Draw Phase, "Nibelung's Ring" forces Joey to draw two cards ("Knight of Dark Dragons" and "Dangerous Machine Type-6"): if any monsters are drawn, one must be discarded to the Graveyard. Joey discards "Knight of Dark Dragons".
- Activates Continuous Spell Card "Dangerous Machine Type-6". Now during each of Joey's Standby Phases, Joey can roll a die and then he can activate an appropriate effect of "Dangerous Machine Type-6", depending on the result. If it's a one, Joey must discard one card. If it's a two, Zigfried must discard one card. If it's a three, Joey can draw one card. If it's a four, Zigfried can draw one card. If it's a five, Joey can destroy one monster Zigfried controls. If it's a six, Joey must destroy "Dangerous Machine Type-6".
Turn 10: Zigfried
- Zigfried draws.
- Activates "Goddess Skuld's Oracle's" effect: Zigfried looks at the top three cards in Joey's deck("Grappler of Landstar", "Goblin Attack Force", and "Sasuke Samurai") and re-arranges them, putting "Goblin Attack Force" on top.
- Activates "Goddess Verdandi's Guidance's" effect: Zigfried guesses "Monster Card". It is correct. Joey Special Summons "Goblin Attack Force" in face-down Defense Position.
- Activates "Goddess Urd's Verdict's" effect: Zigfried selects Joey's face-down card and guesses "Goblin Attack Force". It is correct. "Goblin Attack Force" is removed from the game.
- Activates "Goddess Verdandi's Guidance's" effect: Zigfried guesses "Monster Card". It is correct. Joey Special Summons "Goblin Attack Force" in face-down Defense Position.
- Zigfried Sets a card.
Turn 11: Joey
- Instead of a normal Draw Phase, "Nibelung's Ring" forces Joey to draw two cards ("Grappler of Landstar" and "Sasuke Samurai"): if any monsters are drawn, one must be discarded to the Graveyard. Joey discards "Grappler of Landstar".
- Activates "Dangerous Machine Type-6's" effect on the Standby Phase, rolling a die. Joey rolls a 3, which enables him to draw 1 card.
- Summons "Sasuke Samurai" (500 ATK / 800 DEF) in Attack Position.
- Zigfried activates Trap Card "Loge's Flame". Now any monsters with 2000 ATK or less can't attack. When "Loge's Flame" is removed from the field, Zigfried can Special Summon "Valkyrie Brünnhilde" from his hand or Deck.
- Joey activates Quick-Play Spell Card "Graceful Dice", rolling a die. Joey gets a 3, tripling his monster's attack ("Sasuke Samurai": 500 → 1500 ATK / 800 DEF). It is still not sufficient to overcome "Loge's Flame's" effect however.
- Joey sets a card("Silver Dollar").
- On Joey's End Phase, the effect of "Graceful Dice" wears off, returning the ATK of "Sasuke Samurai" back to normal("Sasuke Samurai": 1500 → 500 ATK / 800 DEF).
Turn 12: Zigfried
- Zigfried draws.
- Activates "Goddess Skuld's Oracle's" effect: Zigfried looks at the top three cards in Joey's deck and re-arranges them("Blue Flame Swordsman", "Gearfried the Iron Knight", and "Release Restraint"), putting "Gearfried the Iron Knight" on top.
- Activates "Goddess Verdandi's Guidance's" effect: Zigfried guesses "Monster Card". It is correct. Joey Special Summons "Gearfried the Iron Knight" in face-down Defense Position.
- Activates "Goddess Urd's Verdict's" effect: Zigfried selects Joey's face-down card and guesses "Gearfried the Iron Knight". It is correct. "Gearfried the Iron Knight" is removed from the game.
- Activates "Goddess Verdandi's Guidance's" effect: Zigfried guesses "Monster Card". It is correct. Joey Special Summons "Gearfried the Iron Knight" in face-down Defense Position.
- Activates Spell Card "Swan Maiden": Zigfried Special Summons "Valkyrie Erste" (1600 ATK / 1800 DEF) in Attack Position from his hand.
- Uses "Valkyrie Erste" to attack Joey's "Sasuke Samurai".
- Joey activates Trap Card "Silver Dollar": it reduces the Battle Damage inflicted to Joey to 0 and it prevents his monster from being destroyed.
- Zigfried Sets a card.
Turn 13: Joey
- Instead of a normal Draw Phase, "Nibelung's Ring" forces Joey to draw two cards ("Release Restraint" and "Blue Flame Swordsman"): if any monsters are drawn, one must be discarded to the Graveyard. Joey discards "Blue Flame Swordsman".
- Activates "Dangerous Machine Type-6's" effect, rolling a die. Joey rolls a 3, which enables him to draw 1 card(It's "Roll of Fate").
- Activates Spell Card "Roll of Fate", rolling a die and depending on the result, Joey can draw cards equal to the die result and then send the same number of cards from the top of his Deck to the Graveyard. Joey rolls a 6. He draws 6 cards and sends the top 6 cards from his Deck to his Graveyard.
- Activates Spell Card "Giant Trunade": all Spell and Trap Cards on the field are returned to their owners' hands.
- Joey's "Dangerous Machine Type-6" is returned to his hand.
- Zigfried's "Nibelung's Ring", "Goddess Urd's Verdict", "Goddess Verdandi's Guidance", and "Goddess Skuld's Oracle" are returned to his hand.
- Zigfried's face-down Trap Card "Apple of Enlightenment" is returned to his hand. This activates its effect, allowing Zigfried to draw a card.
- When Zigfried's "Loge's Flame" is removed from the field, its second special effect activates: Zigfried can Special Summon "Valkyrie Brünnhilde" (1800 ATK / 2000 DEF) in Attack Position.
- "Valkyrie Brünnhilde" gains 300 ATK for every Dragon and Warrior-Type monster on the field: since Joey controls 2 Warriors, it gains +600 ATK ("Valkyrie Brünnhilde": 1800 → 2400 ATK / 2000 DEF).
- Joey Tributes "Swordsman of Landstar" to Summon "Maximum Six" (1900 ATK / 1600 DEF) in Attack Position.
- Since both the monster Joey tributed and his new monster are Warrior-Type, "Valkyrie Brünnhilde's" ATK does not change.
- Because "Maximum Six" was Tribute Summoned", Joey can roll a die and increase the ATK of "Maximum Six" by the die roll times 200. Maximum Six's" roll is a 6, so "Maximum Six" gains 1200 ATK ("Maximum Six": 1900 → 3100 ATK / 1600 DEF).
- Activates Spell Card "Star Blaster": Joey tributes "Sasuke Samurai" and then rolls a die. Depending on the result, Joey can Special Summon a monster whose Level equals the Tributed monster's Level plus the die result. He rolls a 5: this allows Joey to Special Summon a Level 7 monster, "Red-Eyes B. Dragon" (2400 ATK / 2000 DEF) in Attack Position.
- Since the monster Joey tributed is a Warrior and his new monster is a Dragon-Type, "Valkyrie Brünnhilde's" ATK does not change.
- Uses "Maximum Six" to attack Zigfried's "Valkyrie Brünnhilde".
- Zigfried activates "Valkyrie Brünnhilde's" second special ability: he reduces its DEF by 1000 to prevent its destruction. Damage Calculation is still applied normally (Zigfried 1600 → 900 Life Points).
- Joey uses "Red-Eyes B. Dragon" to attack & destroy Zigfried's "Valkyrie Erste" (Zigfried 900 → 100 Life Points) (NOTE: in the English Dub, the attack target is mistakenly identified as "Valkyrie Brünnhilde" –see NOTES).
- Sets a card.
Turn 14: Zigfried
- Zigfried draws.
- Activates Equip Spell Card "Enchanted Sword Nothung", equipping it onto "Valkyrie Brünnhilde" and increasing its ATK by 400 ATK ("Valkyrie Brünnhilde": 2400 → 2800 ATK / 1000 DEF). Now when the equipped monster battles a Dragon-type monster, that monster will be destroyed at the start of the Damage Step without applying Damage Calculation.
- Since "Enchanted Sword Nothung" was equipped, its second effect activates: Joey's "Red-Eyes B. Dragon" is destroyed and removed from play as it's a Dragon-type monster ("Valkyrie Brünnhilde": 2800 → 2500 ATK / 1000 DEF).
- Activates Spell Card "Rainbow Bridge Bifröst" by targeting "Valkyrie Brünnhilde" for its effect: The ATK of "Valkyrie Brünnhilde" will now increase by 500 for each of Joey's monsters that are currently removed from play until the End Phase. With 5 monsters removed, Brünnhilde gains +2500 ATK ("Valkyrie Brünnhilde": 2500 → 5000 ATK / 1000 DEF).
- Uses "Valkyrie Brünnhilde" to attack "Maximum Six".
- Joey activates Trap Card "Compensation Mediation": Zigfried picks two cards from his Graveyard and puts them, along with "Compensation Mediation", face-down on the field; Joey picks one card. It is revealed to be "Swan Maiden". Because the card Joey chose wasn't "Compensation Mediation", its effect is negated.
- The attack of "Valkyrie Brünnhilde" continues, destroying Joey's "Maximum Six" (Joey 800 → 0 Life Points). Zigfried wins.
