Battle for the Bronze - Part 1, known as The Blazing, Ordinary Road - Jounouchi vs Kaiba in the Japanese version, is the 135th episode of the Yu-Gi-Oh! television series.

After losing to Yugi Muto, who also wins "Obelisk the Tormentor" from him, Seto Kaiba is challenged to another Duel by Joey Wheeler, who hopes to prove his strength as a true Duelist.

SummaryEdit

Thanks to "Dark Paladin's" attack, Seto Kaiba has just lost his Duel to Yugi Muto, putting him out of the Battle City tournament. Feeling that he had been cheated out of his glory, Kaiba refuses to listen to reason—or accept the fact that Yugi won because he'd had support from friends. After tossing "Obelisk the Tormentor" Yugi's way, Kaiba walks away in a huff, but then, Joey Wheeler convinces him to accept his challenge to a friendly Duel for third place. However, if there's anything Seto Kaiba doesn't know, it's the meaning of the word "friendly".

Seto Kaiba's TurnEdit

• Seto draws.
• Seto Summons "Ryu-Kishin Powered" (1600 ATK / 1200 DEF) in Attack Position.
• Sets two cards.

Joey Wheeler's TurnEdit

• Draws "Gearfried the Iron Knight" and subsequently activates it (1800 ATK / 1600 DEF) in Attack Position and uses it to attack Seto's "Ryu-Kishin Powered".
• Seto activates Quick-Play Spell Card "Shrink" on his own monster, cutting "Ryu-Kishin Powered's" ATK in half ("Ryu-Kishin Powered": 1600 → 800 ATK / 1200 DEF). Seto's monster is destroyed (Seto: 4000 → 3000 Life Points).
• Seto activates Trap Card "Crush Card Virus", destroying Joey's "Gearfried the Iron Knight" and every monster in his hand, on his side of the field, and in his Deck if they have 1500 ATK or more.

• (NOTE: In the OCG/TCG, "Crush Card Virus" requires you to tribute 1 DARK monster with 1000 ATK or less, which allows you to look at your opponent's hand and destroy any monster with 1500 ATK or more. This effect lasts for 3 turns, and affects any monster your opponent draws if its ATK is 1500 or more.)

Seto Kaiba's TurnEdit

• Seto draws.
• Summons "La Jinn the Mystical Genie of the Lamp" (1800 ATK / 1000 DEF) in Attack Position and uses it to attack Joey directly (Joey: 4000 → 2200 Life Points).

Joey Wheeler's TurnEdit

• Joey's hand contains "Swordsman of Landstar", "Little-Winguard", "Legendary Sword", "Nutrient Z", and "Graverobber".
• Draws "Graceful Dice".
• Summons "Swordsman of Landstar" (500 ATK / 1200 DEF) in Attack Position.
• Activates Quick-Play Spell Card "Graceful Dice" and rolls a die. He gets a 4, so "Swordsman of Landstar's" ATK is quadrupled for one turn ("Swordsman of Landstar": 500 → 2000 ATK / 1200 DEF). (NOTE: Graceful Dice's Effect is the monsters on your side of the field increases the ATK and DEF points by the number rolled x 100 for 1 turn. Any monsters summoned after this effect are excluded).
• Attacks & destroys Seto's "La Jinn the Mystical Genie of the Lamp" with "Swordsman of Landstar" (Seto: 3000 → 2800 Life Points).
• As Joey ends his turn, the effect of "Graceful Dice" wears off, so the ATK of "Swordsman of Landstar" reverts back to normal ("Swordsman of Landstar": 2000 → 500 ATK / 1200 DEF).
