Deck MastersEdit

Featured Duel: Joey Wheeler vs. Johnson, Part 1Edit

Turn 1: Johnson
Johnson draws. He then Normal Summons "Hysteric Angel" (1800/500) in Attack Position.

Turn 2: Joey
Joey draws "Gearfried the Iron Knight" and subsequently Normal Summons it (1800/1600) in Attack Position. He then activates "Flame Swordsman's" Deck Master's ability, which allows Joey to decrease the ATK of "Flame Swordsman" by any amount of 100 to increase the ATK of 1 Warrior-Type monster Joey controls by that decreased amount. He decreases "Flame Swordsman's" ATK by 500 ("Flame Swordsman": 1800 → 1300/1600) to increase "Gearfried the Iron Knight's" ATK by the same amount ("Gearfried the Iron Knight": 1800 → 2300/1600). "Gearfried the Iron Knight" attacks and destroys "Hysteric Angel" (Johnson 4000 → 3500).

Turn 3: Johnson
Johnson draws. He then Sets a monster.

Turn 4: Joey
Joey draws "Rocket Warrior". His hand contains "Little-Winguard", "Rocket Warrior", "Panther Warrior", "Swordsman of Landstar", "Gamble", and "Bottomless Trap Hole". He then Normal Summons "Little-Winguard" (1400/1800) in Attack Position. He then activates "Flame Swordsman's" Deck Master's ability to decrease its ATK by 300 ("Flame Swordsman": 1300 → 1000/1600) and increase the ATK of "Little-Winguard" by the same amount ("Little-Winguard": 1400 → 1700/1800). "Little-Winguard" attacks and destroys Johnson's Set monster: "Skelengel". Since it was flipped, its effect activates, letting Johnson draw a card. "Gearfried the Iron Knight" then attacks Johnson directly (Johnson 3500 → 1200).

Turn 5: Johnson
Johnson draws. He then Normal Summons "Mystical Elf" (800/2000) in Defense Position. Johnson then Sets 1 card.

Turn 6: Joey
Joey draws "Scapegoat". He then Normal Summons "Rocket Warrior" (1500/1300) in Attack Position. "Gearfried the Iron Knight" attacks "Mystical Elf", but Johnson activates "Judge Man's" deck master's ability, paying 1000 Life Points (Johnson 1200 → 200) to destroy every monster Joey controls and inflict 500 points of damage to Joey for each destroyed monster. 3 were destroyed this way, so Joey takes 1500 damage (Joey 4000 → 2500). Joey's hand contains "Panther Warrior", "Swordsman of Landstar", "Gamble", "Bottomless Trap Hole", and "Scapegoat". Joey Sets "Bottomless Trap Hole", intending to activate it when Johnson summons a monster that has at least 1500 ATK.

Turn 7: Johnson
Johnson draws. He then Normal Summons "Curtain of the Dark Ones" (600/500) in Attack Position. He then activates his Set "Polymerization"; fusing "Mystical Elf" and "Curtain of the Dark Ones" to Fusion Summon "Kamionwizard" (1300/1100) in Attack Position. Johnson then activates Continuous Magic Card "Sinister Justice". Now Fusion Monsters Johnson controls can attack on the turn they were Fusion Summoned. Also each time a Level 4 or below Fusion Monster Johnson controls inflicts Battle Damage to Joey, Johnson will gain 800 Life Points. "Kamionwizard" attacks Joey directly (Joey 2500 → 1200). The second effect of "Sinster Justice" activates (Johnson 200 → 1000). Johnson Sets 1 card.

Duel concludes next episode.

Differences In AdaptationsEdit

  • When Joey chooses his Deck Master to be "Flame Swordsman", flashbacks of him using "Flame Swordsman" are cut in the English dub.
  • A shot of Honda grabbing Otogi and then wrestling with him is cut in the English dub.
  • A shot of Gozaburo throwing papers at young Seto and hitting him with them are cut in the English dub.

MistakesEdit

  • In the English dub, "Hysteric Fairy" is referred to by its Japanese name, "Hysteric Angel."
    • Additionally, the above mistake is fitting as the monster's halo was not edited out in the dub.
  • In the English version, Joey calls "Sinister Justice" a Trap Card.

TriviaEdit

  • Johnson is the first member of the Big Five to assume the form of a monster used by a Main Character. In this case, "Judge Man" is used by Kaiba. Ironically, the next, and last, case is Leichter who Duels Kaiba as "Jinzo", Joey's monster.
