"Windwitch" (WW (ウィンド・ウィッチ) Windo Witchi) is an archetype of female WIND Spellcaster monsters used by Rin in the Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V anime.

The members of the archetype follow the naming pattern "Windwitch - [word relating to ice, cold or purity] + Bell". Visually, all of them have a big bell somewhere on their bodies as accessories, a reference to that fact that the name of the archetype's user in the anime, Rin, can mean "cold" ( (りん) ) or "bell" ( (りん) ). The Main Deck monsters shown so far have the appearance of either a stereotypical magical girl (Glass Bell and Ice Bell) or a literal bell (Snow Bell). The Extra Deck monsters, on the other hand, have appearances consisting of a mixture between a jet-like figure and a bell, all with a feminine appearance, which may be due to the fact that the word "bell" is also played on the word "belle" meaning beautiful woman.

Playing style[]

The "Windwitch" monsters focus on a burn strategy. Their effects also have restrictions based on the WIND Attribute, similar to the "Speedroid" archetype, which, combined with the fact that not only are both archetypes geared towards Synchro Summoning, but the anime users of both archetypes had a very strong connection, implies that Windwitches are designed to be an engine that can be teched into a "Speedroid" Deck and vice-versa.

In the anime, the high-Level monsters can copy the effects of monsters in the Graveyard, allowing the user to keep indirectly reactivating the burn effects. The real life versions instead have "Winter Bell" focuses on swarming and burn tactic, while the effect "Crystal Bell" is toned down to user's turn only but also capable of copying the monster's name."Extra-Foolish Burial" can be used to dump powerful Extra Deck monster but with harsh summoning condition(s) into the Graveyard to be copied by "Crystal Bell".

A well known Engine consisting of "Ice Bell", "Glass Bell", and "Snow Bell" allow the player to easily summon "Crystal Wing Synchro Dragon", usually using "Winter Bell", "Clear Wing Fast Dragon", or "Wind Pegasus @Ignister" along the way to maximize their effect as much as possible, though it also has a glaring weakness of limiting Extra Deck Summoning to level 5 or higher WIND monsters and preventing the player from Special Summoning non-WIND monsters for that turn.

With support from "Blazing Vortex", Windwitch can now utilize an alternate swarming strategy without having to lock down the majority of their Extra Deck summoning due to "Ice Bell"'s effect, granting access to other non-wind Synchro monsters. The archetype boss monster "Diamond Bell" rewards the player once (twice if all Synchro materials are Windwitch monsters) per turn by destroying opponent's card each time any form of damage is inflicted to them. "Blizzard Bell" can be Normal Summoned without tribute if you control only Windwitch monsters or no monsters and can be sent from field or hand to Graveyard to inflict burn damage and facilitate "Diamond Bell" effect, while "Freeze Bell" can Special Summon itself while you only control at least one Windwitch monster, and can manipulate its own level for Synchro Summoning. "Windwitch Chimes" Special Summons a Windwitch monster from deck, while "Icy Breeze Refrain" is a versatile Trap card that can either Special Summon a Windwitch monster from the Graveyard or negate your opponent's card that response to your Windwitch monster effects.

Weakness[]

  • "Ice Bell" and "Glass Bell", the deck's main engines, restrict the turn's summoning to Wind and Level 5 or higher monsters, effectively preventing Xyz, Link, and non-Wind monsters from being summoned that turn should the player uses both of their effect in tandem. The release of addition members of the archetype alleviates this, as the player now has more viable options to go for without locking out some of their tactics.
