[edit] Correct

You are correct these types of cards do not work when discarded as card costs, for example magic jammer. The easiest way to identify a card as having a cost rather than an effect is to see which text comes first; the discard of the rest. So in Magic Jammer, it says discard 1 card. Negate the activation of a spell card and destroy it. Well, the discard came first so it is a cost.

Hope I helped :D

[edit] For 21 july edit

Fiend Roar Deity Raven doesn't work, his effect work with a cost. I remove it.

I'm sorry, the card is clear. "Once per turn, you can discard any number of cards in your hand and have this card gain ATK equal to the number of cards you discarded x 400 until the End Phase. For each card discarded by this effect, increase this card's Level by 1 until the End Phase." It's a effect, not a cost. Damned, I need to learn how to read.

This may be a stupid thing to ask, But do dark world monsters work with rituals? because i have a friend who come up with b.s. answers. He thinks that because rituals say tribute from field or hand and you can't tribute from hand that they mean discard that it works and even so I still think its would be a "cost!!!" I don't use dark worlds or rituals so I can't prove anything to him.

            Please help!!!!!!

Well I don't think that tributing a card from your hand would be classified as a 'discard due to a card effect', because it's a tribute, which I think is a form of a cost...? Clorth 08:46, October 14, 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Dark Crusader

I think the effect of the dark crusader is not a cost... I mean, this card (for me) was made as a suport to activate the effect of the darkworld monsters. Please, if I'm wrong please let me now.....

As you can see here, is a cost. Missign0 04:35, September 30, 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Veil of Darkness

I have found great controversy about this card. Many people say that you cannot activate your Dark World monster's effects because the effect says "send to the graveyard", not "discard". But in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading card Game Official Rulebook Version 7.0 English Edition, under the Glossary, it says:

"Discard"
"Discard means to send a card from your hand to the Graveyard. This can happen because of a card effect or by adjusting the number of cards in your hand during the End Phase."

Therefore, I interpret, that sending a card from your hand to the graveyard and Discarding are the same thing, so if done by a card effect should trigger a Dark World monster's effect.
Since Veil of Darkness says to "Draw" a card, the card must go to your hand. Then, as a cost, you reveal it to your opponent, and then as part of Veil of Darkness' effect you send it to the graveyard (Card Rulings:Veil of Darkness), which should trigger the Dark World card's effect.
This would make Veil of Darkness incredibly powerful in a Dark World Deck. Please help contribute to this question so that I and anyone else wondering can be more clear on this subject. Clorth 09:10, October 14, 2009 (UTC) This is a ruling concerning the Dark World monsters: "These effects only activate if the cards are discarded by a card effect. They will not activate if discarded for the cost of a card like "Lightning Vortex", "Raigeki Break", "Tribe-Infecting Virus", or "Infernal Incinerator". They will not activate if sent to the Graveyard by a card effect like "Last Turn" or "Chaos Emperor Dragon - Envoy of the End"." Likewise, Veil of Darkness (unfortunately for Dark World players)does not activate the Dark World effects. --DarknessR 09:30, October 14, 2009 (UTC)DarknessR--DarknessR 09:30, October 14, 2009 (UTC)
