Reflected battle damage

I was under assumption that monster that reflects battle damage its controller receive is still counted as battle damage, because they usually accompanied with "All battle damage you take from battles involving this card is also inflicted to your opponent" (Recital Starling) or "Your opponent takes all Battle Damage that you would have taken from a battle involving this card" (Magical Reflect Slime).
Then I saw Relinquished updated effect "While equipped with that monster, any battle damage you take from battles involving this card inflicts equal effect damage to your opponent". Was this always the case for Relinquished and other monsters?
