Summon monster effects are an Unclassified Effect that enables a Normal Summon Monster to Special Summon itself without starting a Chain (a built-in Special Summon). This Summon can only be performed during an open game state in its possessor's Main Phase.

Examples includes "Goka, the Pyre of Malice", "Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World", and "Machina Fortress".

This type of effect is negated by effects that negate monster effects off the field (such as "Dark Ruler Ha Des"). However, any action taken for this Summon is not the result of a card effect, so a "Beiige, Vanguard of Dark World" discarded to Special Summon "The Tricky" will not be Special Summoned.

This effect is not a Continuous Effect, nor an Ignition Effect, since it does not start a Chain.
