To Shuffle hand or Deck means sufficiently randomizing the cards, to prevent you from tampering with the cards you'd draw next.

After searching a card from your Deck, by an effect, you must shuffle your Deck, unless the card's effect states otherwise. After returning a card(s) to their Deck(s), players must also shuffle it, unless stated otherwise.

There is no rule for how to shuffle, but while shuffling you cannot look at the cards you are shuffling, or arrange the cards and then shuffle them.^[1]

Some card effects (like "Card Shuffle") do not involve searching your Deck but do involve shuffling it.

Older card texts include the phrase "shuffle your Deck afterwards". However it was considered redundant, so newer texts omit the phrase. Later, the Problem-Solving Card Text has shown to change from only "return to the Deck" to "shuffle into the Deck".
