Kattobingu (かっとビング) is a term used by Yuma Tsukumo in Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL series. In the dub, it is usually changed to "feelin' the flow"; In the English manga, to "jetting". The term has no actual meaning, and has many possible origins. It may come from either Katto (カッと), which means "to flare up"/"to act resolutely", or from Kattobasu (かっ飛ばす), which means "to slam"/"to knock out", while bingu may either be simply a Japanese rendering of the English onomatopoeia "bing" or a term added to the end of the word to make it sound "cool".

The term is used by Yuma as a catchphrase, created by his father, Kazuma Tsukumo and was passed on to him. However, it is more important than that, and Yuma considers it to be among the most important things his father taught him. The meaning behind the term is to never give up even it seems impossible, to always challenge, and to believe in oneself.[1] Yuma follows this thought firmly thanks to the pendant his father gave him, which makes him feel like his father is always with him, and thus makes him able to do "Kattobingu", no matter how much people laughed.[2][3]

Several equivalents were used by the English fanbase, such as "Bring It to 'Em", "Pop Flying" and "Fly High to the Sky" or "Rise to the Sky", but it is ultimately a made-up word and therefore cannot be properly translated.

Other characters also have their own versions of "Kattobingu":

  • Cathy uses "Catbingu" (キャットビング, Kyattobingu)[4]
  • Pip uses "Dogbingu" (ドッグビング, Doggubingu)[5]
  • Tori uses "Kotori Kattobingu" (かっとビング 小鳥, Kattobingu Kotori)[6][7]
  • Yuma created "Kaitobingu" (カイトビング), a portmanteau of "Kattobingu" and "Kaito", as a way to cheer up Kite Tenjo (whose original name is "Kaito").[8]
  • Caswell uses "Todorobingu" (とどろビング), a portmanteau of "Kattobingu" and his last name, "Todoroki".[9]
  • Gilag used "Owattabingu" (終わったビング) as a parody to Yuma's Kattobingu, meaning "it's the end-bingu"/"I'm finished-bingu", when he was about to be defeated alongside Yuma and disappear.[10]
  • Orbital 7 said "Kashikomaringu da, oira" when he shook hands with Lilly. This is a portmanteau of "Kashikomari" ("Understood" or "Roger", typical expression used by Orbital 7) and "Kattobingu".[11]
  • In Bronk's imaginary outline of Yuma marrying Rio, Yuma calls out "Weddinbingu" (ウエディンビング), a portmanteau between the words "Wedding" and "Kattobingu" when Bronk mistook what Shark said as Yuma being Rio's lover and that they'll eventually get married.[12]
