In the anime, "Heroic Challenger" and "Heroic Champion" are both archetypes. In the OCG, most of their support cards are changed to be support cards for all "Heroic" monsters.
So far, all "Heroic" monsters are EARTH-Attribute monsters, except for "Heroic Champion - Excalibur" who is a LIGHT-Attribute monster and "Number 86: Heroic Champion - Rhongomiant" which is of the DARK-Attribute.
The "Heroic" archetype is easily discerned from others by their ability to create monsters with extremely high attack without any need of a previous setup to reach this. That does not mean that is the only tactic at their disposal. A large number of "Heroic" cards also have effects that stop your opponent utilizing low-Level Special Summons and defensive tactics, prevent your opponent from destroying yours by battle and even cause your opponent to suffer equally from attacks where they would usually win.
