I've had this issue for a long time now, and several opponents have had different says about this. The three of the four Z-ARC Magicians, Black Fang, Purple Poison, and Double Iris have MONSTER EFFECTS that activate when destroyed by battle or by card effect. For sure, their effects will activate if destroyed on the Monster Zones, but I have one question. If they're on the Pendulum Zones and I destroy them, do their effects activate? The rulings for Pendulum Zones clearly state that they are treated as Spell cards while on the zones. If they're destroyed, they leave the zones. During what period do when they become Monsters? The moment they leave the zone? Or AFTER they're destroyed. I've been playing them treating them as the former, so that their self-destruction effs activate when they leave the zones. Some people let me use their effects, some don't and say they have to be destroyed while as a monster.

Pendulum Monsters can only apply the effect that is associated with where they are on the field (Pendulum Effect if in the Pendulum Zone or Monster Effect in the Main Monster Zone/Extra Monster Zone). They're only Spell Cards while in the Pendulum Zone. In every other case, they're Monster Cards. Thus, if the above cards you mentioned are destroyed while in the Pendulum Zone, they can't use the Monster Effect. --MasterMarik (talkcontribs) 01:31, October 9, 2017 (UTC)
MasterMarik, no. When a Pendulum Monster's monster effects "if this card is destroyed" without specifying a location, it triggers on both Monster and Pendulum Zone. Destroying "Purple Poison Magician" with "Time Pendulumgraph" to do a 2-for-1 is a basic play of the Deck. Otherwise, why would Fusion/Synchro/Xyz Pendulums need to specify "If this card in the Monster Zone is destroyed" to avoid loops where it always places itself again in the Pendulum Zone? --XBrain130™ (エックス) ブレーン130」 11:57, October 9, 2017 (UTC)
