"It is a typical day in the local Yu-Gi-Oh! card shop. It is 11:00 and the duelists are preparing themselves to duel. The random selection pits the best duelist with the worst. And yet, the best duelist is stricken by an incredible misfortune! After a full monster hand, three consecutive dead draws per duel! And in the end, he loses the Match."
This little true story tells us that chance is an important factor in the game. However, that chance is greatly influenced by 3 things: 1) Monster to Spell and Trap Card ratio, 2) shuffling methods 3) the opponent cutting the deck.
Let's say we have a perfect 1:1 ratio. We cannot control how the opponent cuts, but we can control how we shuffle. Warning: This page is not about how to cheat by false shuffling and other "magic tricks", I simply want any volunteer to tell me the shuffling method that works best with their deck (Meaning it gives them an even distribution of cards when they draw, and minimizes dead draws). Anyone wanting to post, please state your deck's size (xx cards) and Monster to Spell and Trap Card ratio (x:x).
I have a 40 card deck with a 1:1 ratio, and I shuffle by placing the first card of the deck face-down, then the second card is placed next to it face-down, and the third card next to the second. So I have the beginning of 3 piles - then I add cards on them in order, and after the deck is out of cards, I place the middle pile on the third and the first on top. This is a mildly good shuffle, but still not perfect. Please make some suggestions!
- Well I arrange my cards like monster, spell, monster, trap, etc and then shuffle like they do on the anime. Airblade86 20:44, 10 August 2008 (UTC) (I don't know if it's legal)
- I don't think that method is legal - or at least that's what everyone at my Hobby League is telling me - otherwise I would use it too... Darth Covah 20:53, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
- After I build a new deck, I tend to find that the cards clump up a lot as well. The best remedy? Hindu shuffle your deck for 2 hours while watching TV. This will surely disperse your cards better. --Pizzaman 06:03, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
- Albeit that is a good idea, and I have resorted to it quite a few times, there is simply not enough time to do so in the middle of a competition. In between duels, 2 hours (or even 30 minutes, the minimum) is an impossible time requirement I'm afraid. However, I have seen that this method works, and I'll probably use it before participating. Split deck in to 4-8 piles then shuffle the piles back together. By that I mean place a card into pile one ,then two ,then three ,then four then keep repeating until deck is empty. Skavinger 06:20, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, that's the technique I prefer also - but do you know of any more effective ones? Darth Covah 06:22, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
Well, alternate your Spell/Traps with your Monsters. Then just do some regular shuffling (not pile, it WILL screw this up). Don't try it in the midst of a Duel or Match, that will most likely be warranted as cheating. Alternatively, you can just shuffle as per normal, only on occasion sending the cards down to the bottom instead of to the top. Scrambles your cards a bit more. If you wish, flatten your foil cards too, it will reduce the chances of them sticking together. Trust me, it gets annoying when you're not using card protectors. --Gadjiltron 06:33, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
- Sounds good - I will try it out next time I duel. Flattening foil cards...why didn't I think of that? That's why both my Rare Value cards always stuck together, producing two dead draws in a row...thanks for the tips! Darth Covah 06:37, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
