Yu-Gi-Oh! Wiki

Okay, so me, my brother and some friends have started playing yu-gi-oh recently. I used to play it years back but of course a lot has changed over the years... not that any of this is relevant.

We often find ourselves with contradictions or unclear rulings and hypotheticals. Now, please forgive me if the answer to this is obvious but with so many rules and exceptions, effect orders and resolving chains and yadayada it's an awful lot to remember and yu-gi-oh isn't exactly the most straight forward of games...

My hypothetical/query: My opponent has a 'HELPOEMER' face up attack on the field. It's description/effect stating: "[[If this card was destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard, this effect activates at the end of each of your opponent's Battle Phases: Discard 1 random card from your opponent's hand. This card must be in the Graveyard to activate and to resolve this effect.]]"

Now let's say I activate the trap card 'Breakthrough Skill': [[Target 1 face-up Effect Monster your opponent controls; that face-up monster your opponent controls has its effects negated until the end of this turn]]... (there's more but it's not important).

So, I choose to target 'HELPOEMER' with the trap. If 'HELPOEMER' is then sent to the graveyard as a result of battle, like it's effect states, does it still meet the condition for it's continuous graveyard effect or would that be nullified due to it's effect being negated, thus preventing 'HELPOEMER's "discard one random card" graveyard effect? (does this make sense?)

I tried looking into it a bit and got onto the whole Effect/Costs/Conditions shebang and it just confused me more. Could someone please shed some light on this scenario, and where possible, explain why it works that way.

Thanks in advanced.

Note: This is my first post here. Sorry if I've inadvertently broken some posting rule. I did read through some of them... --User:Reinbodasshu‎

You didn't broke anyrule, but you comepletely hid you message by putting it inside the the invisible tag.
As for your quesion: It doesn't work. Breakthrough Skill negates the effects of a monster only while themonster is on the field. Helpoemer's effect activates in the Graveyard. --XBrain130™ (エックス) ブレーン130」 18:48, May 6, 2017 (UTC)
