"Anything worth running is worth running in multiples. ...The logic is this: if a card is powerful, you want to draw it more often. If you have more copies, you'll do that." --Deck Building Basics

When the September 2013 TCG banlist was announced, there was, for lack of a better word, a shitstorm. Several favourite staples hit the Forbidden list, with many others getting Limited as well, forcing players to look for alternatives to fill the sudden increase in vacant Deck space.

But that's not where we'll stop this time. In this Deck Contest, we'll limit everything usable to a single copy of each card. Yes, it will completely violate the tip quoted at the top of the page. But that's how self-imposed challenges work - imposing restrictions for the sheer challenge they present, even if doing so violates common sense.

Guidelines

  • All OCG and TCG cards are fine, as long as it has been released proper.
  • Deck must be in Template:Decklist.
  • This contest will be in September 1st, 2013 TCG Banlist.
  • You will be given maybe 1 day if you are late to post, after that, you're out.
  • Deck submissions will open on September 13th, 2013, and are due September 15th, 2013.

Addendum

With regards to cards that change their own names (like, say, the Harpie cards), we will only look at the cards' original names in determining separate copies. The Maximum of 3 Rule still applies otherwise. This means permitted combinations include:

But combinations not allowed include:

Registration

Limiting everything useable is already a challenge on its own (not to mention the miniscule archetypes that won't make a Deck on their own), so you have free reign over what kind of Deck you wish to build. You need not divulge what type of Deck you will be building.

Just add your username under this paragraph in this section to register.

  • Looks like I'm joining for a sense of competition this time, hopefully we can get another 2 contestants. Hastydemon2 (talkcontribs) 00:58, September 11, 2013 (UTC)

Comments? Questions? Complaints?

U wot m8? ... I assume we can use more than 1 "Harpie Lady" in our Deck, right? They are technically "different cards", albeit with the same name. --UltimateKuriboh (talkcontribs) 02:56, September 7, 2013 (UTC)

Well, I didn't see that question coming! Since it would be entirely unfair otherwise, we will only look at the card's original names in determining a "single copy". The Maximum of 3 Rule will still apply otherwise. This means you can use any combination of 3 Harpie monsters that treat themselves as Harpie Lady provided every single one of those has a different original name. I'll tweak the rules to better reflect this. --Gadjiltron (talkcontribs) 03:51, September 7, 2013 (UTC)

Does the one-copy rule apply to the Extra Deck too? --Moja619 (talkcontribs) 00:10, September 8, 2013 (UTC)

Yes, it does. --Gadjiltron (talkcontribs) 01:29, September 8, 2013 (UTC)

Happy Birthday to me, Happy Birthday to me! So I've created a Madolche Deck, as they're mostly unaffected by being sent to the Graveyard, are excellent searchers and have many cards which work as an archetype exclusive (well, any deck without monsters in its graveyard to be exact...) substitute for regular negation (and everyone loves a birthday treat).

Because of this limitation, I've included each of the Madolche monsters (when limited to one card only, Butlerusk is surprisingly helpful for looking for that Chateau...Marmalmaide for getting said Chateau out of the grave...and who can't say no to an extra turn via Baaple and Chickolates?).

For some extra monsters, I have Flame Tiger (useful for a quick XYZ, but if not so, at least it won't be a burden to this deck since it removes itself from play), Mirror Ladybug, which can capitalise on the empty graveyard and perform basic XYZ summons, Marshmallon (for endurance purposes and happens to fit in with the cake theme. Super Nimble Mega Hamster works with, well, basically any beast in the deck, but especially so with Hootcake, stopping it from staying in the graveyard (and I get a Puddingcess! Or Messengelato to get out Ticket or Chateau). Risebell is helpful for getting out a Tiaramisu, since many of the Madolches will not be at level 4.

For the Extra Deck, Tiaramisu is a must (recycles almost anything and her effect is nice...pity I couldn't run more...), as well as Fortune Tune, for a lossless XYZ. Leviair can bring back any of my monsters banished due to Hootcake, or rescue a key piece of the deck.

Spells now. Let's see...Chateau is a must (to find it I have Terraforming and Butlerusk. It's like three copies, only, it's not!) and so is Ticket (shame it's hard to search for, or given less priority than the Field Spell). The Forbidden Spell Series is quite useful, considering that my Madolches are so physically weak, and to stop too many monsters from coming into my graveyard (in the form of the stray XYZ or defeated Marshmallon), I have Pot of Benevolence.

For Traps, as stated a while back, I've included the Madolche Counter Traps as a means of replacing Bribe and Breakthrough Skill (Plus some must have cards, C.E.D, etc.). Right, that concludes my deck explanation. Chromace (talkcontribs) 10:55, September 15, 2013 (UTC)

No really I have no clue what to call this. Its a mix of Plants, Naturia, Six Sams, Debris Junk Synchro, and a small Summoner Monk engine. The deck is all over the place but gives it so much of an element of surprise, no really it does, one minute they might think your playing a Plant Synchro hybrid with Junk Synchron and Debris Dragon, then drop some Six Sams which might confuse them more. They'll never know what's coming.

But enough with that. The main Plant engine (Lonefire, Dandy, and Spore) make up 1 of the 3 Synchro engines, I'm not counting the Naturia part as a Synchro engine, the other two being the Debris Junk engine and the Summoner Monk engine. The Naturia part is sort of an extension of the Plant engine, with Horneedle and Mantis as Summoner Monk targets and decent sized Level 4's along with Butterfly adding in an attack negation once per turn. Beans combos well with Spore, Junk Synchron, and Debris Dragon kinda bridging them together while also being able to fend off at least one attack before dying.

The Six Sams add some monster removal in the forms of Hand and Mizuho, Shinai just fits in with Mizuho and Hand since its searchable with RotA and Smoke Signal and its effect will trigger with both of their effects getting a fallen Samurai back. Of course Kageki, Kagemusha, and Kizan make it in since they allow Shi En and Barkion to hit the field reletively easily, and Kagemusha is also another target for both Junk Synchron and Debris Dragon. Squire can act as a tuner if need be but serves more of a protect a Six Sam from battle role, which is helpful with Mizuho who can't tribute herself. Zanji can just suicide stuff with Kizan which can be better than one would expect.

Debris Junk is fairly simple, revive Dandy/Doppel get tokens. That's what you'll usually do if you don't have a follow-up, sometimes you could get Kagemusha then special summon Kizan for Barkion, or even revive Kagemusha then special summon Doppel from hand to get a Level 5 and Armory Arm (Librarian first then Armory for an extra card), there's a few combos like that which may come up but I'm not going to list all of them.

Summoner Monk will give you a Rank 4, which probably won't happen much, or a Level 8 Synchro which is normal Summoner Monk stuff but the deck has a hard time getting Level 8 Synchro's without it (except Debris and Scapegoat can do it too). Tytannial is n easily summonable "semi-boss" monster with Lonefire, I say semi since she usually doesn't last long. Crusader, Gigaplant, and Supervisegive you a way of suiciding Crusader to get Crusader back thanks to Supervise, or revive my plants or insects which could lead to more havoc.

Everything else is fairly simple, with the exception of Benevolence which can be used to return 2 important cards from either player's grave to the deck, yes I could use Transmigration but I feel more comfortable using 12 spells with Monk. Hastydemon2 (talkcontribs) 05:57, September 15, 2013 (UTC)

Well, here we go. I decided to make a deck revolved around the effect of Box of Friends, and what better way to trigger its effect than with King Tiger Wanghu! If wanghu is on the field and i summon Box, it is destroyed with wanghu's effect, triggering its own, and giving me two monsters which can lead to an Xyz Summon.

So first thing's first, i need to search out these two cards. I added cards like Pot of Duality, One for One, Summoner Monk, Zombowwow and Gold Sarcophagus to get them. Once I have them, I need to protect them, or at least wanghu, for which I added lots of cards for that, as well as cards that can stop my opponent's monsters from destroying wanghu. As far as Box, I added a total of 8 Nromal Monsters that are summonable with Box's effect. I threw in Pot of Duplicity to retrieve wanghu and box. I added Torrential Tribute and Dark Hole which can trigger Box's effect in case i don't have wanghu available. I added Masked Chameleon, Birthright, Call of the Haunted, Limit Reverse, Crane Crane and Swing of Memories to revive monsters which can lead to more xyz summons and synchro summons. I added Horn of the Phantom Beast to surprise my opponent if they try to attack wanghu. I also added Gem-Knight Fusion in case I can make a Fusion Summon with my two Gem-Knights.

And there you have it, my entry for this interesting little competition. I hope you like this deck, and heppy voting! Moja619 (talkcontribs) 03:02, September 16, 2013 (UTC)
