Latest revision as of 01:26, 16 September 2014

Archfiend Emperor, the First Lord of Horror says "You cannot summon other monsters, except Fiend-type monsters." I've been playing under the premiss that, as soon as it is overlaied, it is no longer on the field, which means it's effect is no longer active. This would allow me to use it to xyz summon non-fiends. Recently, I was told this is wrong, and it cannot be used to xyz summon non-fiends. Could I get some clarification on this? Maybe a comparison to a similar ruling? Janoside89 (talkcontribs) 19:59, September 15, 2014 (UTC)

You are wrong. you cannot summon non-fiends. this means you can not even start the proccess of something that would summon a non-fiend, even if he would not be present afterwords. meaning you can't xyzs non-fiends, synchro or even tribute him for a ritual spell for a non-fiend.
I can't think of a very good comparison, other then all cards with conditions like that function like that.DreadKaiser (talkcontribs) 20:05, September 15, 2014 (UTC)

Can you give me a few examples of other cards with similar conditions?

any cards that limit of prevent special summons. http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Prevents_your_Special_Summons this isn't a rule for the emperor, ALL restrictive conditions and effects work that way, this isn't something that is listed in ruling pages for the individual cards, its just how these conditions work.
When any effect or condition say "you cannot do X", then you can not do X, you cannot attempt to start a process that will end in X, you can not activate anything that will result in X, even if the limiting card would leave the field in the process.
That's how restriction effects and conditions work. I do not think i can phrase a more detailed explanation for why it works that way in a way that is easy to understand.DreadKaiser (talkcontribs) 23:16, September 15, 2014 (UTC)

I have to dispute that point. The Special-Summon blocking part of Archfiend Emperor, the First Lord of Horror is a Continuous Effect that can be negated. It works that way under Skill Drain. --Gadjiltron (talkcontribs) 00:43, September 16, 2014 (UTC)

It DOESN'T apply as xyzs material, it prevents you from using it or any other monster for an non-fiend xyzs in the first placeDreadKaiser (talkcontribs) 01:26, September 16, 2014 (UTC)
