Hello Yu-Gi-Oh Community,
As some of you may have seen from our recent blog series on Community Central, improving the ad experience on Fandom is a focus in 2017.
I am posting here today to let you know that we are testing out a more optimized "ad mix" on this community. As logged-in users, you likely will not notice any changes. But logged-out users and readers will see only a few types of direct advertisements. Direct ads tend to be the more high-impact ads but, in general, have fewer performance impacts on the page than programmatic ads. Readers will also see fewer programmatic ads, and those programmatic ads will be from a more limited set of ad networks. (For details on what "direct" and "programmatic" mean, please refer to the blog series linked in the first paragraph).
At this time, the test is open-ended and we'll be monitoring a variety of things, and likely making adjustments as time goes on. The test is on both mobile and desktop, and affects users in all countries and regions.
How can you help? We're looking for subjective feedback from both you and your readers:
- Has the ad experience improved from a few months ago?
- Has page load time and performance improved from a few months ago?
- Has your overall experience reading the wiki improved from a few months ago?
If any of you from the editing community log out and browse the wiki, please provide your own feedback here. If you are running an ad blocker, remember to disable it or whitelist yugioh.wikia.com so that you can see all ads display. Please note that if you consistently run an ad blocker for all internet browsing, the quality of ads you see after disabling it may be much lower than average.
I would also like to request your advice or assistance on reaching out to your community of readers for feedback. Where is a good place to talk about this subject? I look to you as the experts, and perhaps to even pose the questions there yourselves. We'll also run a survey to logged-out users on this wiki, to gather feedback that way as well.
