"If you do" effect

Man, when the new cards came out with "and if you do" effect, it got me really confused. so, is it possible for an effect to activate in a middle of another effect like "Photon Papilloperative"? If that's not possible because of missing the timing, then what's it really used for? 24.83.215.20 (talk) 22:29, June 11, 2012 (UTC)

It doesn't activate separately, it resolves as part of the same effect. It's basically the same as things like Upstart Goblin and Soul Taker. -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 01:52, June 12, 2012 (UTC)

It just means that if you're unsuccessful for whatever reason, that part of the effect won't resolve. Say a card said: "Target 1 Monster on the field; Destroy it, and if you do, draw 1 card." If something like Safe Zone was chained, or you targeted a Monster like Red Nova Dragon, you wouldn't draw a card. Lappyzard (talkcontribs) 01:57, June 12, 2012 (UTC)

Oh, so this is mostly used on Continuous Effects, right? I was mostly thinking of Quick Effects interrupting other effects. Hmmm, couldn't they use "then" like they did in Armor Ninjitsu Art of Alchemy? 24.83.215.20 (talk) 21:18, June 13, 2012 (UTC)
  • It's not very hard to grasp... It works exactly how it reads. You can never interrupt a card mid-resolution, so that isn't an issue.--YamiWheeler (talkcontribs) 21:22, June 13, 2012 (UTC)
They add "if you do" because some kind of noobs said that if you cannot destroy, you cannot negate either (Doomcaliber Knight).-- (talkcontribs) 23:41, June 13, 2012 (UTC)
