Card sleeves (カードプロテクター[Note 1] kādo purotekutā "card protector") are protective plastic covers used to prevent cards from getting bent or scratched.[1] Most card sleeves are made by third-party manufacturers, though Konami distributes a few styles of their own sleeves.[2][3][4][5]

If a player uses card sleeves, they must all be the same so their cards aren't marked.[1] Also, if a player use a card sleeve on their Extra Deck, it must differ from the Main Deck. In case of Side Deck, the card must have the same backing as the respective deck they belong in (Main/Extra).

In the OCG, it is possible for a player's Deck to contain cards with different backings. In cases like this, it is mandatory for the player to use sleeves to prevent their cards from being marked.[6]

In video games, card sleeves serve no practical purpose and only serve as customizable features.
