• This monster is based on the Japanese mythology death representation shinigami which means "death god".
    • Its appearance, however, does seem to match that of an oni, or mythical Japanese ogre-demon. It may also be the skin removing demoness Datsue-ba.
  • It is possible that this is the death goddess form of "Izanami". Both have the same DEF (1800) and this card's ATK is twice that of "Izanami".
    • It also looks like she is wandering away from the spirit world and going to Yomi (the land of death in Japanese mythology), as it was described on her story.
  • This card and fellow Spirit monster "Fenghuang" have the same Level and DEF. Also, they have similar effects: this destroys Monster Cards while the other destroys Spell and Trap Cards.
