The "Palenque Astronaut" has been interpreted as depicting a man controlling a spaceship. This ornately decorated five ton stone was discovered in 1952 in Chiapas, Mexico covering the Tomb of the Mayan King Pacal, at the Temple of Palenque ~ the only known Mayan Pyramid to contain a Tomb, as seems to be the case throughout Egypt.
The monster could also be based off a relic found at Sitio Conte, nearly two miles from El Cano. The relic is a gold pendant bearing a large emerald that depicts an imaginary creature. This gold pendant once belonged to a chief.
