• This card is named after Sirius, the brightest star of the night sky, and a part of the Canis Major or Greater Dog constellation. Sirius is also the dog companion of the huntsman Orion of Greek mythology.
    • The Chinese name for Sirius the star, 天狼星 tiānlángxīng or heavenly wolf star, is similar to the first part of the Japanese name of this card, 天狼王 Tenrō'ō or heavenly wolf king, further suggesting that this monster is based on the star.
    • The Japanese spelling of "Sirius" is based on the Greek spelling, "Seirios".
    • Its effect which activates when it is destroyed is a reference to Pawnee creation myth, in which the wolf (Wolf Star Sirius) was the first creature to experience death.
  • This monster resembles Cerberus, the legendary three-headed dog that guards the Underworld in Greek mythology.
