- This card has three retrained counterparts: "Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning", "Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Twilight", and "Black Luster Soldier - Sacred Soldier"; a Ritual Monster retrained counterpart: "Black Luster Soldier - Super Soldier"; as well as an Illegal Normal Monster counterpart, "Black Luster Soldier".
- The Japanese version name "Chaos Soldier" comes from its original manga and anime appearance in which a LIGHT and DARK monster were necessary sacrifices to perform the "Black Luster Ritual". The LIGHT and DARK souls created a "gateway to chaos" which "Gaia The Fierce Knight" charged through to become "Black Luster Soldier".
- In some video games, this card has a DARK Attribute as opposed to the EARTH Attribute it has in the TCG.
- In most video game texts and in this card's Normal Monster counterpart's lore, this card is stated to have power equivalent to that of the "Blue-Eyes White Dragon", most likely due to the fact that its ATK, DEF and Level equal that of "Blue-Eyes White Dragon".
- Its also suggests a relation of partnership or rivalry between these two cards, the same relation between Yugi Muto and Seto Kaiba, because despite being rivals, they work together sometimes using both cards to form "Dragon Master Knight".
- Interestingly, unlike "Dark Magician", which had counterparts in other series for being the signature card of a main protagonist, Yugi Muto, this card does not have any counterparts as there has yet to be a main protagonist after Yugi who uses a 3000 ATK monster as their secondary ace.
- Although one could argue that "Stardust Dragon/Assault Mode" and "Odd-Eyes Rebellion Dragon" could be considered a counterpart in this sense.
- This was one of the very few cards not to have an 8-digit input code in the bottom left corner until its reprint in Legendary Collection 3: Yugi's World Mega Pack.
- Its reprint in Duelist Pack: Battle City lacks this code though.
- Pharaoh Atem probably carried the spirit of this card, as he became "Black Luster Soldier" and fused with Seto Kaiba's "Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon" to form "Dragon Master Knight" in the fight with Zorc Necrophades.
