- This card can be easily Synchro Summoned by Normal Summon "Junk Synchron" and use its effect to Special Summon "Shield Wing" or another level 2 Winged Beast from your graveyard.
- Use this card in a Deck with "Blackwing", "Dragunity" or "Harpie" cards.
- In a "Dragunity" deck, this card can easily be Synchro Summoned by equipping "Dragunity Legionnaire" with "Dragunity Phalanx". When Vortex is destroyed, one of the best cards to special summon is "Dragunity Tribus", which will get its effect.
- Tune this card with a level 3 Dragon-type tuner (such as Delta Flyer or Dragunity Pilum) to easily summon Dragunity Knight - Barcha.
- Dragunity players can also use this to Special Summon a "Dragunity Dux" or "Dragunity Legionnaire", so that next turn they can Synchro Summon a Level 9 Synchro Monster like "Mist Wurm" or "Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier", by using the one that isn't on the field already (Dux/Legionnaire) and its ability to equip "Dragunity Phalanx".
- You can also Summon this card by Normal Summoning "Blackwing - Blizzard the Far North" and with its effect, Special Summon "Blackwing - Kalut the Moon Shadow" from your Graveyard, then tune them.
- This could be a worthy candidate for your unused "Blackwing - Vayu the Emblem of Honor" after summoning it with "Blackwing - Shura the Blue Flame". If this card is destroyed by battle, you can Special Summon another Blackwing - Shura the Blue Flame, which can then Special Summon another "Vayu", allowing you to Synchro Summon for another copy of this card once again.
- You could also use this card in a "Gladiator Beast" deck, tuning either "Gladiator Beast Bestiari" or "Gladiator Beast Equeste" with cards like "Effect Veiler". Then if this card destroyed by battle you can Special Summon a "Gladiator Beast" from your deck.
- You can use "Barrier Resonator" and "Blackwing - Calm the Shimmer" as the Synchro summon. Then if this card is destroyed, you can special summon any Level 4 or lower "Blackwing" monster from your deck.
- Following with this combo, you can use "Shimmer's" effect when you don't have any monsters during your opponent's battle phase to bring Vortex or any "Blackwing" from the graveyard.
