- This card can be searched by "Dogu", "Single Purchase", "Chaos Zone", "Ninjitsu Art of Super-Transformation", "Dragonic Guard", "Draconnection", "Hieratic Dragon King of Atum" and "Tempest, Dragon Ruler of Storms".
- This card can be Tribute Summoned with one Tribute using "Totem Dragon", "Double Coston" and "The First Monarch".
- Banish "Infernal Dragon" to Special Summon this card before the effect of "Infernal Dragon" destroys itself.
- Use "Allure of Darkness" and banish this card, then bring it back with "D.D.R. - Different Dimension Reincarnation" or "Escape from the Dark Dimension".
- Using "Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon", you can Special Summon almost any high Level Dragon-Type monster.
- With the effect of "Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon", you can Special Summon "Felgrand Dragon" or "Darkblaze Dragon" from the Graveyard to activate their effects.
- You can use "Instant Fusion" and Special Summon "Darkfire Dragon" (Level 4) or "Alligator's Sword Dragon" (Level 5) and banish it to Special Summon this card and still have your Normal Summon for that turn. This is especially handy when combined with monsters like "Chthonian Emperor Dragon". But be careful, as it burns up the cards in your hand very easily, so keep cards like "Reckless Greed" handy when you use this strategy.
- Use the effect of "Deep Diver" to place "Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon" on top of Deck then you'll just draw him next turn or combo with "Monster Gate" to Summon it quickly.
- This card makes great use of "Trade-In" to get a "Dark Horus", "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" or "Rabidragon" into the Graveyard. If you do this, you can get 2 Dragons with 2800+ ATK each.
- This card can be Special Summoned by the effect of "King Dragun" to give you an extra Special Summon. If you have a "Prime Material Dragon" in hand or the Graveyard, you can protect all three monsters from destruction and have two free Special Summons a turn.
- Beware of "Zombie World", as it will make this card's effect useless because it will change every monster(s) on the field and in the Graveyard into Zombie-Type.
- Note that this card can be Summoned as early as the first turn, and as easily as simply banishing a "Troop Dragon". Take advantage of this.
- Use "Fires of Doomsday" to create Tribute fodder for "Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon".
- With the use of "DNA Surgery", you can remove cards that will return themselves when removed from play, such as "D.D. Scout Plane" or "D.D. Survivor" for a costless Summon.
- You can bring back "Scrap Dragon" to destroy itself and one of your opponent's cards each turn.
- If you have "The White Stone of Legend" on your field when "Scrap Dragon" was Summoned, you could destroy it instead to add a "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" from your Deck to your hand.
- Bring out "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" using this card's effect, and use "White Elephant's Gift" or "Advance Draw" to Tribute it and draw 2 cards.
- Use "Gold Sarcophagus" to banish one of your Dragon-Type monsters and then use "Burial from a Different Dimension" to put your monster in your Graveyard. Then Summon it with "Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon".
- This card is also useful in "Dragunity" Deck. Combine with "Dragunity Darkspear" to make sure you can reuse most of your "Dragunity" monsters efficiently.
- Use along with "Dragunity Arma Mystletainn" for easy Summon fodder to avoid banishing essential Tuners like "Dragunity Phalanx". "Red-Eyes Wyvern" can also help.
- With the release of "Hieratic" archetype, this card can be easily Summoned via "Hieratic Dragon King of Atum" (albeit with 0 ATK and DEF), while "Atum" itself can be easily Xyz Summoned with the combination of "Dragunity Knight - Vajrayana", "Dragunity Knight - Gae Dearg" and/or "Dragunity Arma Mystletainn".
- Since this card is Limited, "Disaster Dragon" Decks has greatly weakened in terms of both power and consistency (while leaving "Chaos Dragon" and "Hieratic" Decks unhindered). To remedy this problem, you can either:
- Utilize many revival cards, like "Call of the Haunted", "Redox, Dragon Ruler of Boulders" or "Red-Eyes Wyvern",
- Utilize cards that can act as this card's replacement, like "Queen Dragun Djinn".
- Utilize cards that can search this card easily, such as "Tempest, Dragon Ruler of Storms" or "Hieratic Dragon King of Atum".
- If you banish any of the "Dragon Rulers" for this card's Summoning, you can also activate their effects for adding one matching-Attribute Dragon from your Deck to your hand (assuming you didn't use any of their other effects this turn).
- If you have no monster, you can banish Dragons from your Graveyard for Special Summoning one "Dragon Ruler", then banish it for Special Summoning this card.
- This card can be used to get high-Level Dragons on the field quickly, due to its effect.
Traditional Format
- Since you can Summon Dragons from your grave without cost, combo it with "Card of Safe Return".
- After dumping your 5 Dragons for "Five-Headed Dragon", sending 5 powerful Dragons to the grave, Summon any Dragon and banish it to Special Summon "Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon". Then start the Dragon revival from your Graveyard.
- An alternative use for "Five-Headed Dragon" to get this card out is to first use "Future Fusion" and send this card, "Red-Eyes Wyvern", and three other strong Dragons preferably "Blue-Eyes White Dragons" or "The White Stone of Legends" (in the case of "White Stone", also adding "Blue-Eyes" to your hand equal to the number of "White Stone(s)" sent to the Graveyard this way). You can revive this card during your End Phase and start reviving the other monsters next turn to make an early push.
- It would be wise to use "Future Fusion" to send 3 "The White Stone of Legends" to the Graveyard along with "Red-Eyes Wyvern" and "Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon" to the Graveyard. During your End Phase of the turn, use the effect of "Wyvern" to Special Summon "Red-Eyes", then during your next turn use the effect of "Red-Eyes" to Special Summon one of the 3 "Blue-Eyes" from your hand that you got when you sent the 3 "White Stones" to the Graveyard. That way you have a 2800 ATK monster and a 3000 ATK monster on the field all because of "Future Fusion". And two turns later, you'll have the mighty "Five-Headed Dragon" along with your "Red-Eyes", "Blue-Eyes" and any other powerful Dragons that you may have Summoned in those two turns.
- Use "Future Fusion" to set up for a win easily by sending this card, a few Level six Dragons, such as "Prime Material Dragon" and "Delta Flyer" by selecting "Five-Headed Dragon". Use "Divine Dragon Apocralyph" to add this card back to your hand then banish it to Special Summon this card or Special Summon it with "Monster Reborn" instead.
- Use "Future Fusion" to send "Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon", "Red-Eyes Wyvern", "Mirage Dragon", "Prime Material Dragon" and "Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV6" to the Graveyard for "Five-Headed Dragon". Special Summon "Red-Eyes" using the effect of "Wyvern", and bring back "Horus LV6" (after leveling up, it will negate any Spell Cards, including "Forbidden Lance"), "Mirage Dragon" (your opponent can't use Trap Cards in their Battle Phase), and "Prime Material" (protects your monsters from being destroyed by card effects) using the effect of "Red-Eyes", while getting "Five-Headed Dragon" after 2 turns, leaving you almost unstoppable. If possible, have cards Set to prevent your opponent from stopping your Special Summons like "Royal Decree" (allowing you to replace "Mirage Dragon" with another strong monster). Note that Tuner monsters like "Dread Dragon" can also replace "Mirage Dragon" which allowing you to tune later with "Prime Material" or "Horus LV6" to Synchro Summon "Stardust Dragon" or "Red Dragon Archfiend".
