Card Tips:Light and Darkness Dragon

  • "Gorz the Emissary of Darkness" is great in combination with this card. You can use Gorz and its token as tribute fodder the turn after you summon them. And when "Light and Darkness Dragon" eventually bites the dust, you already have a powerful beatstick to revive with its effect.
  • Use this card's effect to Special Summon "Herald of Creation" while you have a "Treeborn Frog" in your Graveyard. During your Standby Phase, because this card destroyed all of your cards during the previous turn, you can Special Summon "Treeborn Frog". Discard a card with "Herald's" effect to return this card to your hand, and then Tribute those two to Tribute Summon this card.
  • If you reduce this card's Level by at least 1 with cards like "Level Eater" or "Star Blast", this card can be used for Synchro Summoning either "Light End Dragon" or "Dark End Dragon". Level Eater is more recommended, as if it's negated. You can just repeat until the effect cannot be used anymore.
  • You can make a loop with this card and "Dragunity Arma Leyvaten". When you summon "Leyvaten", equip this card to it. Whenever this card or "Leyvaten" is destroyed, your field will be destroyed by the effect of this card. Then, use the other effect of this card to Special Summon "Leyvaten" from your graveyard, re-equip this card to it, and repeat. The only weakness in this loop is cards that can banish the two monsters, or send them back to the hand or deck. Also keep in mind that the effect of "Dragunity Arma Leyvaten" can still "miss the timing", so be extremely careful when executing this combo.
  • You can use the 3rd effect of "Swap Frog" to put this card back in your hand after it's been weakened. Even if it still has enough ATK/DEF to negate one more effect, this card cannot prevent "Swap Frog" from returning it to the hand; returning a monster to the hand is a cost to use "Swap Frog's" 3rd effect (Normal Summoning a "Frog" monster), and this card cannot negate costs.
  • Special Summon "Genex Ally Birdman" by returning this card to your hand as a cost. If you have another monster on the field or a monster that can be easily Special Summoned (like "Treeborn Frog", "Jester Confit" or "The Tricky"), Tribute both to Tribute Summon this card once again, with its ATK/DEF points returned to normal.
    • This strategy is especially useful in Frognarchs Decks, since they run "Treeborn Frog" for easy Tributes and can benefit a lot from "Birdman", thanks to its recycling abilities and access to "Locomotion R-Genex" and various Synchro Monsters.
    • This can also be done with "Frog" monsters, as mentioned above. In Formula Monarch builds that use the Frog engine, Special Summon "Swap Frog" with its own effect. Return this card to your hand as a cost to activate "Swap Frog's" effect, then Normal Summon a Frog monster with a different name like "Treeborn Frog" or "Dupe Frog" (using the extra Normal Summon that "Swap Frog" provided). Then Tribute Summon this card using both Frogs.
  • To Summon this card easily, you can use "Limit Impulse" which gives you 2 Tokens that can be easily use to Summon this card. Keep in mind that "Limit Impulse" decrease your Hand advantage significantly.
  • If this card's trapped in a 2-way chain, save it with "Burst Breath".
    • Keep in mind that your opponent must have at least 1 face-up monster with lower DEF than this card's ATK (so that "Burst Breath" could activate), and your Field must not have too many monsters, in order to minimize casualties.
    • Also, if this card is sent to the Graveyard this way, its third effect will NOT activate, so think twice before using this maneuver.
  • If you can Summon this card while having face-up "Splendid Venus" on your side of the Field, this card will have already lost 500 ATK, but in return you can still activate your Spells and Traps without being negated, even by this card (its ATK/DEF will not decrease). So it will only negate your opponent's Spell and Traps, giving you good advantage.
  • "Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossack" can generate tokens for this card's Tribute fodder, even allowing you to Tribute Summon this card in the first turn of the Duel. This trick is mostly seen in many Dragon Ruler decks.
    • Dragon Rulers (not counting their low-level version) are all Level 7, so they can be used for Xyz Summoning "Dracossack" easily.
  • Equip this card to a "Paladin of Felgrand" using its effect. When "Paladin" is destroyed, it will trigger the third effect of this card.

Countering Light and Darkness Dragon

  • When trying to get rid of your opponent's "Light and Darkness Dragon", use easily chainable cards like "Enemy Controller" or "Compulsory Evacuation Device" to exploit his once-per-chain effect, while depleting as few resources as possible.
    • Using those chainable cards in conjunction with Monster Effects that doesn't have a big cost (like "Chaos Sorcerer", "Lonefire Blossom" or "Elemental HERO Stratos") allows you to get rid of the Dragon while also gaining the Monster effect, allowing you to spend as few cards as possible.
  • A really easy way to destroy this card is to use a "Monarch" monster. Tribute Summon a "Monarch" (like "Mobius the Frost Monarch" for example): this card will try to negate its effect. Even if it had its full ATK and DEF, it will end with at least 2300 ATK, which is low enough for your "Monarch" to destroy in battle.
  • To easily destroy your opponent's "Light and Darkness Dragon", Summon "Doomcaliber Knight" and activate any monster effect. That will activate this card's effect. In response, "Doomcaliber Knight" will activate as the third chain, negating this card's effect and destroying it in the process.
  • You can also use the effect of "Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress" multiple times, because "Lyla" will not turn into Defense Position if her effect's negated, so you'll be able to activate its effect many times, until the ATK/DEF of this card becomes 800/400 respectively.
  • When you have no monster in your field and your opponent's "Light and Darkness Dragon" declares an attack, you can activate the effect of "Battle Fader" as chain link 1, and the effect of this card will attempt to negate it in the chain link 2, and after that, activate "Dimensional Prison" to get rid of your opponent's "Light and Darkness Dragon" and still Special Summon "Battle Fader".
  • A good way to lower the ATK of this card fast is by having "Treeborn Frog" in your Graveyard. When it comes to your Standby Phase, you can keep activating its effect indefinitely. Eventually, it will Special Summon, and your opponent will have a weak "Light and Darkness Dragon". This method also applies to "Samsara Lotus", when it activates during your End Phase and "Naturia Pineapple" in the same way as "Treeborn Frog".
  • A good way to get rid of this card is to use any card effect, then when it tries to use its effect to negate, chain it with "Divine Wrath".
    • However, this maneuver will reduces your hand advantage significantly, so consider "Solemn Strike" instead.
  • Use the effect of "Quillbolt Hedgehog", "Worm Yagan", or "Blackwing - Vayu the Emblem of Honor" to get rid of this card's negation effect easily. Because "Quillbolt", "Yagan" and "Vayu" don't leave the Graveyard unless their effects resolve, they can be activated once again after being negated by this card. Activate them until your opponent can't negate them anymore, then Special Summon what you were intending to, or make your desired play.
    • This can also be done with "Plaguespreader Zombie". Be careful though: since returning a card to the top of your Deck is a cost, you must give up a card each time you try to use the effect of "Plaguespreader Zombie" to revive itself, even if its effect to revive is negated.
  • "Lava Golem" or "Volcanic Queen" can dispose this card easily (in the case of the former, can also get rid of "Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossack" at the same time when against Dragon Rulers).
  • "The End of Anubis" can negate this card's effect, when sent to the Graveyard and preventing any monster to be Special Summoned from there.
