when your oponent uses book of moon does your caius still aplies his efect or not —This unsigned comment was made by 189.169.7.236 (talkcontribs) 00:59, October 6, 2009

The effect is still applied. Like almost every other card in the game, "Caius the Shadow Monarch" does not need to remain face-up on the field for its effect to be applied.

OK, Question If i summon Caius do i have to choose a card to remove before they chain to caius?(book of moon or something) Lets say I tribute for Caius and they have a facedown Icarus do i have to choose the card first or do they have to activate first? also lets say i choose to remove their only blackwing from play and they don't have something to tribute for Icarus. can they not activate Icarus? or do they get to chain to it so it gets resolved first? —This unsigned comment was made by Myeternalsin (talkcontribs) 21:52, November 1, 2009

The effect of "Caius the Shadow Monarch" targets, so you must choose which card you want to remove before your opponent can Chain. In your example,
  • Chain Link 1: "Caius the Shadow Monarch". At this time, you choose the card you want to remove from play. Say you choose the "Blackwing" monster.
  • Chain Link 2: "Icarus Attack", Tributing the previously-selected "Blackwing" monster and targeting the two cards it will destroy.
(Resolve)

Caius and Yubel...[]

Say I brain control my opponents Yubel- The terror incarnate, and tribute it for Caius. What happens? Am I able to remove the third form Yubel from play? Check the wording of both cards, it appears they'd appear simultaneously, as is described with Kuraz's effect. —This unsigned comment was made by 68.60.151.208 (talkcontribs)

With a chain (something basic that duelists should know):

Tributes Yubel 2 for Caius

Chain Link 1: Yubel 2 (Triggers in Graveyard)
Chain Link 2: Caius (Triggers and Selects Targets)

Resolve:

Chain Link 2: Caius (Removes Targets)
Chain Link 1: Yubel 2 (Special Summons Yubel 3)

Since Yubel 3 is summoned after you select the targets, you cannot remove Yubel 3 with Caius. Falzar FZ 02:15, March 21, 2010 (UTC)

When Caius is summoned , is it optional to choose to to use it's effect? —This unsigned comment was made by 68.203.11.38 (talkcontribs)

You don't need to ask the same question twice, read what I said for Raiza, both don't say 'can' so it is compulsory. Falzar FZ 02:15, March 21, 2010 (UTC)

Nope, all tribute summon effect of Monarch are must activate. --FredCat100 02:17, March 21, 2010 (UTC)
Not necessarily, see Mobius the Frost Monarch for example, it's not compulsory. Falzar FZ 02:21, March 21, 2010 (UTC)
Sorry, after being think about them required due to Caius and Raiza being often use in each deck... Surprise that I forgot Mobius was only Monarch, as well as Kuraz, have an opinion to choice or not. --FredCat100 03:06, March 21, 2010 (UTC)
