OCG Rulings
- If you equip multiple "Metalmorph" then each copy will increase the monster's ATK by 300 points. Furthermore, when the monster attacks, the effects that increases its ATK by half of the opponent monster's ATK overlaps. For example if 2 copies of "Metalmorph" are equipped on the same monster then that monster gains 600 ATK, and when it attacks an opponent's monster, it gains ATK equal to 2 X half the ATK of the opponent's monster.[1]
- You can equip a Trap Card to an opponent's monster, but only if the Trap Card does not specify "your monster". So, you can equip "Metalmorph" to an opponent's monster because it does not specify otherwise, but you cannot equip "Blast with Chain" nor "Kunai with Chain" to an opponent's monster because these cards specify "your monster".[2]
- Normally, for Normal Trap Cards and Counter Trap Cards, after they are activated and resolve they are destroyed and sent to the Graveyard. Continuous Trap Cards with the "Continuous" icon and Trap Cards like "Metalmorph" and "Blast with Chain" which equip themselves to monsters remain face-up on the field after activation.[3]
- The following cards from before Magic Ruler was released on April 20, 2000 do not have the "Continuous" icon, but during the Duel they are still treated as Continuous Trap Cards: "Ultimate Offering", "Royal Decree", "Magical Thorn", "Robbin' Goblin", "Dragon Capture Jar", and "Call of Darkness".[3]
Mentions in Other Rulings
- Fake Feather: If you activate "Fake Feather" and target "Blast with Chain" or "Metalmorph", then the effect will resolve, but "Fake Feather" will not remain on the field equipped to the target monster.[4]
- Junk Collector: You cannot activate the effect of "Junk Collector" by removing from play card like "Metalmorph" or "Blast with Chain". You can activate the effect by removing from play "Kunai with Chain", but you can only apply the effect which changes an attacking monster to Defense Position when an opponent's monster declares an attack. You cannot apply the effect which equips it to a monster on your side of the field.[5]
- Vylon Epsilon: You can send to the Graveyard a Trap Card like "Metalmorph" that is equipped to "Vylon Epsilon" to activate its effect. You can send to the Graveyard an opponent's Equip Spell Card that is equipped to "Vylon Epsilon" to activate its effect.[6]
Previously Official Rulings
| These TCG rulings were issued by Upper Deck Entertainment and have since been deemed unofficial by Konami.[7] They were previously considered official and can still be correct, as long as they follow the official gameplay rules, or unless Konami has issued a ruling that says otherwise. - If you equip a monster with 2 or more copies of "Metalmorph", the effect of each copy of "Metalmorph" is applied. For example, if you equip 2 "Metalmorph" onto a monster it will gain 600 ATK and DEF and when the equipped monster attacks your opponent's monster its ATK will be increased further by the effect of each "Metalmorph".
- If "Reverse Trap" is activated, the increase of 300 ATK and DEF is changed into a decrease of 300 ATK and DEF. When your monster that is equipped with "Metalmorph" attacks your opponent's monster, the additional gained ATK, that is based on the ATK of the monster being attacked, is NOT changed to a decrease.
- The additional ATK gained when your equipped monster attacks your opponent's monster is applied when you attack a face-up or face-down monster. This effect does not target.
- If you have a Warrior-Type monster equipped with "Metalmorph" and it attacks your opponent's "Kinetic Soldier", the effect of "Kinetic Soldier" is resolved first. The monster equipped with "Metalmorph" will gain ATK equal to half of "Kinetic Soldier's" total ATK.
- If your monster that is equipped with "Metalmorph" attacks your opponent's "Injection Fairy Lily", if your opponent activates "Injection Fairy Lily's" effect it will be resolved first, and then after "Injection Fairy Lily's" ATK is increased by 3000 your monster will gain additional ATK equal to half of "Injection Fairy Lily's" total ATK.
- If your monster that is equipped with "Metalmorph" attacks your opponent's "Elemental Hero Wildheart", your monster will still gain additional ATK because "Metalmorph" does not affect the monster that is being attacked.
- When you [sic] monster that is equipped with "Metalmorph" attacks your opponent's "The Wicked Avatar", first you will apply the additional gained ATK based on the current ATK of "The Wicked Avatar", and then if your equipped monster becomes the monster with the highest ATK on the field, the ATK of "The Wicked Avatar" will be recalculated.
- Example: Player A has "Cannon Soldier" equipped with "Metalmorph" (1400 + 300 = 1700 ATK). "Cannon Soldier" is the monster with the highest ATK on the field, so "The Wicked Avatar" has 1800 ATK (1700 + 100 = 1800 ATK). When "Cannon Soldier" attacks "The Wicked Avatar", the additional ATK is applied, giving "Cannon Soldier" a total of 2600 ATK (1800/2 + 1700 = 2600). "The Wicked Avatar's" ATK is then recalculated to 2700 (2600 + 100 = 2700) and damage is calculated. Player A's "Cannon Soldier" is destroyed and Player A takes 100 points of Battle Damage.
Mentions in Other Rulings
- Amplifier: If you have "Jinzo with Amplifier" [sic], your Trap Cards are not negated and their effects are applied, including ... "Metalmorph"...
- Gearfried the Swordmaster: The effect of "Gearfried the Swordmaster" will activate even if a Trap Card is equipped to him (such as "Metalmorph"...
- Red-Eyes Black Metal Dragon: If you have a "Red-Eyes B. Dragon" equipped with "Metalmorph" and your opponent activates "Prohibition" and declares "Red-Eyes Black Metal Dragon", you cannot Tribute the "Red-Eyes B. Dragon" to Special Summon "Red-Eyes Black Metal Dragon".
- Reflect Bounder: Effects such as "Metalmorph"...happen after "Reflect Bounder"'s effect, because "Reflect Bounder"'s effect happens before damage calculation.
