This card's OCG and TCG rulings contradict each other.
Differences |
TCG Rulings[]
- If you negate the effects of a monster with "Majestic Star Dragon" you can only activate 1 of the monster's effects 1 time.[1]
- The effect to return "Majestic Star Dragon" to the Extra Deck is mandatory. It activates even if an effect that prohibits Special Summons is applied. In that case, you return "Majestic Star Dragon" to the Extra Deck" but will not Special Summon "Stardust Dragon".[1]
- If "G.B. Hunter" is on the field, the effect to return "Majestic Star Dragon" to the Extra Deck will activate and resolve without effect.[1]
- If you activate the effect of the monster that "Majestic Star Dragon" negated it will start a Chain. "Divine Wrath" can be used against this effect and will destroy "Majestic Star Dragon" in this case.[1]
- The effect to Special Summon "Stardust Dragon" targets the "Stardust Dragon". It activates even if there is no "Stardust Dragon" in the Graveyard.[1]
- If you negate the effect of a monster and then take control of that monster with another effect, the monster's effect is still negated.[1]
- If you negate your opponent's "Majestic Star Dragon" with your own, you can activate the effect once again to negate another monster.[1]
- You cannot gain and activate the effect of a Gladiator Beast that returns to the Main Deck, but you can gain and activate the effect of a Gladiator Beast that returns to the Extra Deck.[1]
- If "Majestic Star Dragon" is destroyed by battle, it cannot activate the effect of monsters like "Hyper Hammerhead."[1]
- If you negate "The Six Samurai - Yaichi", you cannot apply the effect to destroy another "Six Samurai" monster instead if "Majestic Star Dragon" would be destroyed.[1]
- If you negate "Morphtronic Celfon", you can only activate one of its effects, corresponding to the Battle Position of "Majestic Star Dragon".[1]
- If you negate the effect of a Gemini monster that is being treated as a Normal Monster, you cannot activate its effect. If you negated the effect of a Gemini monster after it's been Normal Summoned again, you cannot activate the negated effect because "Majestic Star Dragon" cannot be Summoned twice.[1]
- If you negate a card effect with an Ignition Effect like "Exiled Force", you can use its effect.[1]
- If you negate "Sangan" with "Majestic Star Dragon" you cannot activate its effect if "Majestic Star Dragon" is sent to the Graveyard.[1]
- You must pay all costs and meet all conditions required for the negated effect that you want to activate with "Majestic Star Dragon".[1]
- You can only activate the negated effect during the turn you negated it with "Majestic Star Dragon".[1]
- "Majestic Star Dragon" can activate effects that starts a Chain. Ignition, Quick, and Trigger Effects can all be activated, but Continuous Effects that are always applied cannot be applied by "Majestic Star Dragon".[1]
- If you negate "Sangan" with "Majestic Star Dragon" then attack it, the effect of "Sangan" will activate and resolve normally.[1]
- "Majestic Star Dragon" cannot negate the effect of a monster whose effect is already negated.[1]
- You can Tribute "Majestic Star Dragon" to negate an opponent's card even if they control no cards to be destroyed.[1]
- You can use "Stardust Dragon" as a Synchro Material Monster for "Majestic Star Dragon" even if it's being treated as a Tuner.[1]
- You can Summon "Majestic Star Dragon" even if "Majestic Dragon" is being treated as a non-Tuner and "Stardust Dragon" is treated as a Tuner.[1]
Mentions in Other Rulings[]
- Dragon Knight Draco-Equiste: If you copy the effect of Majestic Star Dragon, then when you return Dragon Knight Draco-Equiste to the Extra Deck during your End Phase, you will also Special Summon Stardust Dragon from the Graveyard.[2]
OCG Rulings[]
On Negating an Activation and Destroying Everything[]
- Tributing "Majestic Star Dragon" is a cost to activate its effect which negates the activation of the effect of a Spell, Trap, or Effect Monster and destroys all cards your opponent controls.[3]
- If a Spell or Trap Card is face-up on the field and its effect activates, then the effect of "Majestic Star Dragon" may be activated in Chain to the effect to negate its activation and destroy all cards your opponent controls.[4]
- You can activate the effect of "Majestic Star Dragon" which negates the activation of an effect and destroys all cards on your opponent's side of the field even if there are no cards on your opponent's side of the field.[5]
On the Effect Which Negates One Monster[]
- The effect of "Majestic Star Dragon" which negates the effect of an opponent's monster until the End Phase targets one of your opponent's monsters.[3]
- If a monster's effects are already being negated by an effect like "Forbidden Chalice" or "Debris Dragon", then you may not choose it as a target for the effect of "Majestic Star Dragon" which negates the effects of a monster.[6]
- "Majestic Star Dragon" can only activate the effect of a negated monster only once. If "Majestic Star Dragon" negates the effect of a monster like "Neo-Spacian Dark Panther" or "Phantom of Chaos" and then uses the negated monster's effect to gain the effects of another Effect Monster, then you cannot activate the effect of the other Effect Monster because you already activated the effect of "Phantom of Chaos".[7]
- If "Majestic Star Dragon" negates the effect of a monster, then if the monster's effect requires an activation cost, then you cannot activate that effect unless you pay the activation cost.[8]
- If "Majestic Star Dragon" negates the effect of a monster, then if the monster's effect can only be activating at a specific time, then you cannot activate that effect unless you are activating it at the proper time.[8]
- You can only activate the effect of a negated monster as the effect of "Majestic Star Dragon" during the same turn in which the monster's effects were negated.[9]
- The effect of "Majestic Star Dragon" which negates the effects of an Effect Monster is an effect which activates and starts a Chain Link. "Divine Wrath" may be Chained to this effect to negate its activation and destroy "Majestic Star Dragon".[10]
- You may not select a Gemini Monster that is being treated as a Normal Monster as a target for the effect of "Majestic Star Dragon" which negates effects. If "Majestic Star Dragon" negates the effect of a Gemini Monster like "Gigaplant" or "Doom Shaman", then the Gemini Monster no longer has its effect which is listed by the "●", so therefore "Majestic Star Dragon" may not activate the Gemini Monster's effect which is listed by the "●".[11]
- If a monster whose effects are negated by "Majestic Star Dragon" is no longer face-up on the field, then you may still activate the monster's effect as the effect of "Majestic Star Dragon", as long as it is still the same turn in which the effects were negated.[12]
- A monster whose effects are negated by "Majestic Star Dragon" only has its effects negated while the monster is face-up on the field. If "Majestic Star Dragon" negates the effects of a monster like "Sangan", then when "Sangan" is sent to the Graveyard its effect of adding a card from the Deck to the hand is not negated.[13]
- "Majestic Star Dragon" can only activate the effect of an opponent's monster as its own effect if "Majestic Star Dragon" is face-up on the field. Thus, if "Majestic Star Dragon" negates the effects of a monster like "Sangan" whose effect activates in the Graveyard, then when "Majestic Star Dragon" is sent to the Graveyard you may not activate the effect of "Sangan" as the effect of "Majestic Star Dragon".[14]
- In general, the effect "Once, you may activate an effect which belongs to the negated monster as the effect of this card." of "Majestic Star Dragon" may only activate an effect which starts a Chain Link. Thus, you can only activate a negated monster's Ignition Effect, Trigger Effect, or Quick Effect as the effect of "Majestic Star Dragon".[15]
- If the activation timing of an effect is not correct, then you cannot activate the effect as the effect of "Majestic Star Dragon".[15]
On Negating Specific Cards[]
- Armed Dragon LV5: If "Majestic Star Dragon" negates the effects of a monster like "Armed Dragon LV5" with multiple effects, then you can activate the effects of the negated monster as the effect of "Majestic Star Dragon" a total of once. Thus, if you activate the effect "Armed Dragon LV5" which destroys a monster as the effect of "Majestic Star Dragon", then later on you cannot activate the effect of "Armed Dragon LV5" which Special Summons "Armed Dragon LV7" as the effect of "Majestic Star Dragon".[16]
- Exiled Force: If "Majestic Star Dragon" negates the effect of "Exiled Force", then you can activate the "destroy 1 monster on the field" effect of "Exiled Force" as the effect of "Majestic Star Dragon".[17]
- Exiled Force: Suppose your "Majestic Star Dragon" negates the effect of your opponent's "Exiled Force", and then you gain control of that "Exiled Force". You can activate the effect of "Exiled Force", but the effect will be negated.[18]
- Geomancer of the Ice Barrier: If "Majestic Star Dragon" negates the effect of "Geomancer of the Ice Barrier" and then "Majestic Star Dragon" activates the effect of "Geomancer of the Ice Barrier", then the effect of "Geomancer of the Ice Barrier" only applied during the turn in which it was activated.[19]
- Gladiator Beast: Suppose "Majestic Star Dragon" negates the effect of "Gladiator Beast Alexander", and then battles. At the end of the Battle Phase, "Majestic Star Dragon" cannot be returned to the Main Deck because it is a Synchro Monster, so you cannot activate the effect of "Gladiator Beast Alexander" as the effect of "Majestic Star Dragon". However, if "Majestic Star Dragon" negates the effect of "Gladiator Beast Gyzarus" instead, then "Majestic Star Dragon" can be returned to the Extra Deck, so you can activate the effect of "Gladiator Beast Gyzarus" as the effect of "Majestic Star Dragon".[20]
- Hyper Hammerhead: Suppose that "Majestic Star Dragon" negates the effect of "Hyper Hammerhead". If "Majestic Star Dragon" is then destroyed by battle, then at the end of the Damage Step you cannot activate the effect of "Hyper Hammerhead" which returns the monster to the hand.[21]
- King Tiger Wanghu: If "Majestic Star Dragon" negates the effects of a monster like "King Tiger Wanghu" with a mandatory Trigger Effect, then when a monster with 1400 ATK or less is Normal Summoned or Special Summoned the controller of "Majestic Star Dragon" may choose whether or not the effect of "King Tiger Wanghu" activates as the effect of "Majestic Star Dragon". If a monster is Normal Summoned or Special Summoned at Chain Link 2 or higher, then after the Chain finishes resolving you may activate the effect of "King Tiger Wanghu" as the effect of "Majestic Star Dragon", without missing the timing.[22]
- Majestic Star Dragon: If your "Majestic Star Dragon" negates the effects of your opponent's "Majestic Star Dragon", then you can activate the effect of your opponent's negated "Majestic Star Dragon" which negates a monster's effects as the effect of your own "Majestic Star Dragon".[23]
- Morphtronic Celfon: If your "Majestic Star Dragon" negates the effect of "Morphtronic Celfon" while "Morphtronic Celfon" is in Attack Position, then you may activate either the "● While in Attack Position:" or the "● While in Defense Position:" effect from "Morphtronic Celfon", as appropriate for the Battle Position of "Majestic Star Dragon".[24]
- Skill Drain: If the ATK of "Majestic Star Dragon" is increased because it negated and then activated the effect of "Card Trooper", then when it is affected by "Skill Drain", the ATK of "Majestic Star Dragon" will return to its original value.[25]
- The Six Samurai: Suppose that "Majestic Star Dragon" negates the effect of "The Six Samurai - Yaichi". If "Majestic Star Dragon" would be destroyed, then you cannot instead apply the Continuous Effect "If this card would be destroyed, you can destroy another "Six Samurai" monster you control instead." from "The Six Samurai - Yaichi" instead.[26]
- Victory Viper XX03: If "Majestic Star Dragon" negates the effect of "Victory Viper XX03", then when "Majestic Star Dragon" destroys a monster by battle, you can activate the effect from "Victory Viper XX03" which Special Summons an "Option Token". However, there is no "Victory Viper XX03" on the field, so the Special Summoned "Option Token" is immediately destroyed.[27]
On Returning to the Extra Deck[]
- The effect of "Majestic Star Dragon" which returns it to the Extra Deck during the End Phase targets one "Stardust Dragon" in your Graveyard. The Special Summoning part resolves as part of the same effect which returns it to the Deck.[3]
- The effect of "Majestic Star Dragon" which returns it to the Extra Deck during the End Phase and Special Summons "Stardust Dragon" is mandatory, so it will activate even if "Vanity's Fiend" or "Jowgen the Spiritualist" are face-up on the field. In this case, "Majestic Star Dragon" will return itself to the Extra Deck, but "Stardust Dragon" will not be Special Summoned.[28]
- The effect of "Majestic Star Dragon" which returns it to the Extra Deck during the End Phase targets one "Stardust Dragon" in your Graveyard. If there is no "Stardust Dragon" in your Graveyard, then this effect still activates; "Majestic Star Dragon" is still returned to the Extra Deck, but no "Stardust Dragon" is Special Summoned.[29]
- If the effect of "G.B. Hunter" is active, then during the End Phase the effect of "Majestic Star Dragon" to return itself to the Extra Deck still activates. However, "Majestic Star Dragon" cannot be returned to the Extra Deck, so when resolving the effect "Majestic Star Dragon" is not returned to the Extra Deck and "Stardust Dragon" is not Special Summoned.[30]
- The effect of "Majestic Star Dragon" which returns it to the Extra Deck and Special Summons "Stardust Dragon" during the End Phase is a mandatory effect. The player must activate the effect; he cannot choose to not activate the effect and leave "Majestic Star Dragon" on the field.[31]
- Dragon Knight Draco-Equiste: "Majestic Star Dragon"'s effects during the End Phase all resolve as part of the same effect. So, if "Dragon Knight Draco-Equiste" gains the effect of "Majestic Star Dragon", then during the End Phase you can return "Dragon Knight Draco-Equiste" to the Extra Deck to Special Summon "Stardust Dragon".[32]
On Synchro Summoning[]
- You may Synchro Summon "Majestic Star Dragon" by using a "Stardust Dragon" which is being treated as a Tuner Monster. If a non-Tuner Monster has its name treated as "Majestic Dragon" and "Stardust Dragon" is being treated as a Tuner Monster, then you may Synchro Summon "Majestic Star Dragon" by using the non-Tuner "Majestic Dragon", the Tuner "Stardust Dragon", and one other non-Tuner Monster as Synchro Material Monsters.[33]
