These Ruling(s) have not been confirmed as applicable to the TCG.[Notes 1]
- Chaos Sorcerer: If the effect of "Chaos Sorcerer" is activated (even if the effect is negated by another effect such as "Effect Veiler" or "Light and Darkness Dragon"), "Chaos Sorcerer" will not be able to attack during the turn.[1]
Email Rulings
Edit
These Ruling(s) have not been confirmed as applicable to the TCG.[Notes 2]
- If "Light and Darkness Dragon" negates "X-Saber Pashuul"'s effect during the Standby Phase, "X-Saber Pashuul"'s effect will keep activating until it successfully deals damage to its controller.[2]
OCG Rulings
Edit
On Having Multiple Attributes
Edit
- The effect "While this card is face-up on the field, its Attribute is also treated as DARK." of "Light and Darkness Dragon" is Continuous Effect, and is applied as long as "Light and Darkness Dragon" remains face-up on the field.[3]
- Ally of Justice Catastor: "Ally of Justice Catastor"'s effect will activate when it battles a monster with multiple Attributes, such as "Dark Simorgh" or "Light and Darkness Dragon" (assuming that "Light and Darkness Dragon" doesn't negate the effect).[4]
- Gozen Match: "Light and Darkness Dragon" will always be sent to the Graveyard by "Gozen Match". However, since it only has one Attribute while in the hand/Graveyard or while face-down on the field, it can be still be Normal/Special/Flip Summoned (however, it will be immediately be sent to the Graveyard).[5]
On Negating Activations
Edit
- "Light and Darkness Dragon" will also negate the effect of a monster which activates in the hand. The monster will not be sent to the Graveyard.[6]
- If the effect of "Gorz the Emissary of Darkness" is negated, then its effect to Special Summon itself cannot be activated again, unless you are receiving Damage for a second time.[6]
- If "Kuriboh" or "Thunder Dragon" has its effect negated by "Light and Darkness Dragon", then it was discarded as a cost, so it does not return to the hand.[6]
- The effect "When a Spell or Trap Card is activated, or the effect of an Effect Monster is activated, that activation is negated and this card loses 500 ATK and DEF." of "Light and Darkness Dragon" is a Quick Effect. The effect can only be activated in Chain to the activation of a Spell, a Trap or and Effect Monster's effect. Furthermore, decreasing its ATK and DEF by 500 occurs when activation-negating effect resolves.[3]
- Angel O7: "Angel O7" will prevent "Light and Darkness Dragon"'s second and third effects from activating.[7]
- Drill Warrior: If the activation of the effect of "Drill Warrior" which Special Summons it during the Standby Phase is negated by the effect of "Light and Darkness Dragon", then you cannot activate that effect of that "Drill Warrior" a second time during the same Standby Phase. Thus, "Drill Warrior" remains removed from play.[8]
- Forbidden Chalice: While "Light and Darkness Dragon" has 800 ATK and 400 DEF, if "Forbidden Chalice" is activated and targets "Light and Darkness Dragon", then "Light and Darkness Dragon" cannot lower its DEF by 500 so its effect will not negate "Forbidden Chalice". When "Forbidden Chalice" resolves, the effect of "Light and Darkness Dragon" is negated and it returns to 2800 ATK and 2400 DEF, and then the effect of "Forbidden Chalice" adds +400 ATK. When you stop applying the effect of "Forbidden Chalice" during the End Phase, "Light and Darkness Dragon" will have 2800 ATK and 2400 DEF.[9]
- Fortune Ladies: If the activation of the effect "During each of your Standby Phases, increase the Level of this card by 1 (max 12)." of monsters like "Fortune Lady Light" is negated by the effect of "Light and Darkness Dragon", then the effect of "Fortune Lady Light" will activate again during the same Standby Phase.[10]
- Number 11: Big Eye: If "Light and Darkness Dragon" negates the activation of the effect of "Number 11: Big Eye", then you can attack with "Number 11: Big Eye" during that turn.[11]
- Splendid Venus: If "Splendid Venus" is on the field, "Light and Darkness Dragon's second effect will activate, but the card will not be negated and "Light and Darkness Dragon" will not lose 500 ATK/DEF.[12]
- Triple Star Trion: If the effect of "Triple Star Trion" activates during the End Phase but has its activation negated by "Light and Darkness Dragon", then you cannot activate the effect of "Triple Star Trion" again during the same End Phase.[13]
On Destroying and Special Summoning
Edit
- The effect "When this card is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard, select 1 monster in your Graveyard. Then destroy all cards you control, and Special Summon that monster." of "Light and Darkness Dragon" is a Trigger Effect. When "Light and Darkness Dragon" is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard, this effect activates and you target 1 monster from your Graveyard. When the effect resolves, all cards on your side of the field are destroyed and the targeted monster is Special Summoned.[3]
- If "Light and Darkness Dragon" is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard while it is being treated as an Equip Card, then you can activate its effect.[14]
- Suppose that you have "Dragunity Arma Leyvaten" is equipped with "Light and Darkness Dragon", and "Dragunity Arma Leyvaten" is destroyed by an opponent's card's effect. "Light and Darkness Dragon" is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard, so its effect activates, and you can Special Summon the "Dragunity Arma Leyvaten" that is in your Graveyard. Furthermore, the effect of "Dragunity Arma Leyvaten" activates, and you can treat that "Light and Darkness Dragon" in your Graveyard as an Equip Card.[14]
- Angel O7: See above; listed in the On Negating Activations section.
Mentions In Other Rulings
Edit
- Naturia Spiderfang: If the only Spell/Trap Card activated during the turn was negated by a card like "Light and Darkness Dragon", then "Naturia Spiderfang" cannot attack.[15]
- The Tyrant Neptune: The ATK of "The Tyrant Neptune" is increased by the total ATK(s) of the Tributed monster(s); the DEF of "The Tyrant Neptune" is increased by the total DEF(s) of the Tributed monster(s). You do not increase the ATK by the combined ATK and DEF.[16]
- Example #2: "Sangan" (1000 ATK / 600 DEF) and "Light and Darkness Dragon" (2800 ATK / 2400 DEF) are Tributed for "The Tyrant Neptune". The ATK of "The Tyrant Neptune" increases by 3800, and the DEF increases by 3000. (You do not increase the ATK and DEF by 6800 each.)[16]
Previously Official Rulings
Edit
These TCG rulings were issued by Upper Deck Entertainment and have since been deemed unofficial by Konami.[18] They were previously considered official and can still be correct, as long as they follow the official gameplay rules, or unless Konami has issued a ruling that says otherwise. References: [19][20][21][22][23][24][25][26]
- “Light and Darkness Dragon's” first effect is a Continuous Effect that makes its Attributes both LIGHT and DARK while it is face-up on the field.[17]
- “Light and Darkness Dragon's” second effect that negates the activation of Spell, Trap, and the effects of Effect Monsters is a Quick Effect. “Light and Darkness Dragon” loses 500 ATK and DEF when its effect is resolved, after negating the activation of the Spell, Trap, or effect of the Effect Monster. This effect can be activated during the Damage Step.[17]
- “Light and Darkness Dragon's” second effect can only activate once during the Chain. If a Spell, Trap, or effect of an Effect Monster is chained to the second effect of “Light and Darkness Dragon”, “Light and Darkness Dragon’s” second effect will not activate again in that same Chain.[17]
- If the ATK and DEF of “Light and Darkness Dragon” are less than 500 when a Spell, Trap, or effect of an Effect Monster is activated, the second effect of “Light and Darkness Dragon” will still activate but when it resolves it will not negate the activation of the Spell, Trap, or effect of the Effect Monster because its ATK and DEF cannot be reduced by 500.[17]
- The ATK and DEF lost by “Light and Darkness Dragon” from its second effect is applied to its total ATK, including all other gains and losses of ATK and/or DEF.
- Example: If you use the second effect of “Light and Darkness Dragon” 4 times (500 X 4 = 2000 loss of ATK and DEF) while “Luminous Spark” is face-up on the Field Spell Card Zone, the “Light and Darkness Dragon” will have 1300 ATK and 0 DEF. If “Luminous Spark” is then removed from the field or negated, the “Light and Darkness Dragon’s” would change to 800 ATK and 400 DEF.[17]
- If “Shrink” is used to halve the original ATK of “Light and Darkness Dragon”, the original ATK of “Light and Darkness Dragon” is halved to create a new current ATK and then the ATK and DEF lost by the effect of “Light and Darkness Dragon” is reapplied. Example: If you use the second effect of “Light and Darkness Dragon” twice (500 X 2 = 1000 lost ATK and DEF) and “Shrink” is used to halve the original ATK of “Light and Darkness Dragon”, the effect of “Shrink” is applied (2800 / 2 = 1400 ATK) and then “Light and Darkness Dragon’s” ATK is reduced by 1000 (1400 – 1000 = 400) for a total of 400 ATK and 1400 DEF. When the effect of “Shrink” is no longer applied (because the turn had ended, etc.), reapply the lost ATK and DEF to the “Light and Darkness Dragon’s” original ATK of 2800. (In our example, the values would be 1800 ATK and 1400 DEF)[17]
- “Light and Darkness Dragon's” third effect is a Trigger Effect that activates whenever “Light and Darkness Dragon” is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard. This effect targets 1 monster in its owner’s Graveyard. When “Light and Darkness Dragon’s” effect is resolved, you will destroy every card you control and then Special Summon the selected monster from your Graveyard.[17]
- If your “Light and Darkness Dragon” is the only card on your side of the field when it is destroyed and sent to your Graveyard, its effect to Special Summon 1 monster from your Graveyard will still activate, even though you control no cards.[17]
- If the monster you select to Special Summon is removed from the Graveyard in Chain (by using “D.D. Crow”, etc.), before resolving the effect of “Light and Darkness Dragon”, the selected monster will not be Special Summoned but you will still destroy every card that you control.[17]
- When “Light and Darkness Dragon” is destroyed and sent to your Graveyard while you have no monsters in your Graveyard that you can Special Summon, the effect of “Light and Darkness Dragon” will not Special Summon a monster but it will still destroy every card you control.[17]
- “Light and Darkness Dragon's” third effect will activate when it is destroyed while in the hand or the Deck and sent to the Graveyard. Example: “Light and Darkness Dragon” is destroyed by “Crush Card Virus” while in the player’s hand.[17]
- If “Light and Darkness Dragon” is removed from the field or flipped face-down, any loses of ATK and DEF from its effect are reset and will not be reapplied when it is returned to the field or flipped face-up.[17]
- If “Light and Darkness Dragon” is Summoned or flipped face-up while “Skill Drain” is active, “Light and Darkness Dragon's” first effect will be negated. Its second effect will still activate whenever a Spell, Trap, or effect of an Effect Monster is activated, but the effect of “Light and Darkness Dragon” will be negated so the activation of the Spell, Trap, or effect of Effect Monster will not be negated and “Light and Darkness Dragon” will not lose ATK or DEF. Its third effect that activates when it is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard will not be negated because this effect activates and resolves while “Light and Darkness Dragon” is not on the field.[17]
- If you cannot Special Summon a monster because of a card’s effect (“Scapegoat”, etc.) when “Light and Darkness Dragon” is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard you will not be able to Special Summon the selected monster but you must still destroy every card that you control.[17]
- If you cannot Special Summon a monster because all of your Monster Card Zones are forbidden (by “Ground Collapse”, “Ojama Knight”, etc.) when your “Light and Darkness Dragon” is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard, the effect of “Light and Darkness Dragon” will not Special Summon a monster but it will still destroy every card that you control.[17]
- “Light and Darkness Dragon” cannot negate the activation of the Ignition-like effect of Continuous Spell or Trap Cards (“Ultimate Offering”, etc.) or Field Spell Cards (“Ancient City - Rainbow Ruins”, etc.). “Light and Darkness Dragon's” second effect activates when a Spell or Trap Card is first activated (placed face-up onto the field or flipped face-up).[17]
- When the effect of a Normal Spell Card is activated in the Graveyard due to the effect of “Destiny Hero - Diamond Dude”, “Light and Darkness Dragon’s” second effect will not activate because the Normal Spell Card is not “activated”.[17]
- When “Light and Darkness Dragon” negates the activation of a Continuous Spell or Trap Card, the Continuous Spell or Trap Card is sent to the Graveyard. When “Light and Darkness Dragon” negates the activation of “Swords of Revealing Light”, the “Swords of Revealing Light” is sent to the Graveyard.[17]
- When the effect of a Spell, Trap, or effect of an Effect Monster is activated while the card is in your hand (“Green Baboon, Defender of the Forest”, etc.), the card will remain in the player’s hand when its activation is negated by “Light and Darkness Dragon”.[17]
- If a monster with an optional Trigger Effect, like “Peten the Dark Clown” or “Infernal Dragon”, is destroyed by “Light and Darkness Dragon's” third effect, the timing to activate the effect of the destroyed monster is missed because immediately afterwards a monster is Special Summoned. The last thing to happen when resolving the effect is the Special Summon of a monster and not the destruction of “Peten the Dark Clown” or “Infernal Dragon”.[17]
- When “Light and Darkness Dragon” negates the activation of a Spell, Trap, or effect of an Effect Monster that can only be activated once per turn (“Blowback Dragon”, etc.), the Spell, Trap, or effect of the Effect Monster cannot be activated again because the Spell, Trap, or effect of the Effect Monster is treated as having been activated during that turn. If the effect of the Effect Monster can be activated multiple times during the same turn (“Treeborn Frog”, etc.), the effect of the Effect Monster can be activated again.[17]
- If you have 2 or more “Light and Darkness Dragon” face-up on your side of the field when a Spell, Trap, or effect of an Effect Monster is activated, the effect of each “Light and Darkness Dragon” form a Chain, but only the effect of the “Light and Darkness Dragon” chained directly to the activated Spell, Trap, or effect of an Effect Monster will resolve. The other “Light and Darkness Dragon” on the Chain will not negate the activation of the Spell, Trap, or effect of the Effect Monster and they will not lose any ATK or DEF from their effect.[17]
- Example: Player A and Player B each have “Light and Darkness Dragon” face-up on the field. Player A activates “Smashing Ground” in his Main Phase 1. The effect of both copies of “Light and Darkness Dragon” activate. Player A is the turn player, so theirs is placed first onto the Chain (Light and Darkness Dragon A), followed by their opponent’s (Light and Darkness Dragon B). Since Player A’s “Light and Darkness Dragon” is chained directly to “Smashing Ground”, it will negate the “Smashing Ground” and lose 500 ATK and DEF. Player B’s “Light and Darkness Dragon” will not negate “Smashing Ground” and will not lose ATK or DEF.[17]
- If you Tribute “Sangan” and “Witch of the Black Forest” to Tribute Summon “Light and Darkness Dragon”, the effect of “Sangan” and “Witch of the Black Forest” form a Chain. “Light and Darkness Dragon” will negate the activation of whichever effect is placed second on the Chain.[17]
- If the second effect of “Light and Darkness Dragon” is activated and an effect is chained that removes “Light and Darkness Dragon” from the field or flips it face-down, the effect of “Light and Darkness Dragon” will disappear and the activation of the Spell, Trap, or effect of the Effect Monster will not be negated.[17]
- If “Light and Darkness Dragon” negates the activation of “Twin-Headed Behemoth’s” effect, the effect of “Twin-Headed Behemoth” will not activate again during the Duel.[17]
- If the activation of “Destiny Hero - Dasher's” effect that Special Summons a monster is negated by “Light and Darkness Dragon”, the “Destiny Hero - Dasher” will not be able to activate the effect while it remains in the Graveyard. If it is removed from the Graveyard and then later returned to the Graveyard, it will be able to activate its effect once again.[17]
- When “Light and Darkness Dragon” negates the activation of a Spirit Monster's effect that would return it to its owner’s hand, the effect of the Spirit Monster activates again during the same End Phase. When the return effect of the Spirit Monster is activated during the End Phase while “Light and Darkness Dragon” has less than 500 ATK and DEF, the second effect of “Light and Darkness Dragon” will still activate, but it will not be able to negate the activation and the Spirit Monster will return to its owner's hand.[17]
- “Light and Darkness Dragon” will negate the activation of “Serpentine Princess’” effect when the face-up “Serpentine Princess” is sent from the field to the Deck. (“Serpentine Princess” remains in the Deck)[17]
- “Light and Darkness Dragon” will negate the activation of “Mokey Mokey King's” effect that activates when it is removed from the field, even if it is returned to the Fusion Deck.[17]
- If “Light and Darkness Dragon” is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard while being treated as an Equip Card, its third effect that Special Summons 1 monster will activate.[17]
- When a monster is Summoned that has an effect that activates at the time the monster is successfully Summoned (“Zaborg the Thunder Monarch”, “Breaker the Magical Warrior”, etc.) while “Light and Darkness Dragon” is face-up on the field, the effect of the Summoned monster will be Chain Link 1 and “Light and Darkness Dragon” will be Chain Link 2. Because of this, it is not possible to use “Pulling the Rug” to negate the effect of the monster if it was Normal Summoned.[17]
- If “Light and Darkness Dragon” negates the activation of the effect of “Majestic Mech - Ohka” or “Majestic Mech - Goryu” that activate during the End Phase, the effect of the “Majestic Mech - Ohka” or “Majestic Mech - Goryu” will activate again during the same End Phase. If the effect of “Majestic Mech - Ohka” or “Majestic Mech - Goryu” is activated during the End Phase while “Light and Darkness Dragon” has less than 500 ATK and DEF, the second effect of “Light and Darkness Dragon” will still activate, but it will not be able to negate the activation and the “Majestic Mech - Ohka” or “Majestic Mech - Goryu” will be sent to the Graveyard.[17]
- During the turn "Reverse Trap" is activated, "Light and Darkness Dragon's" second effect will only activate 1 time after "Reverse Trap" resolves. When it does, it will gain 500 ATK and DEF instead of losing 500 ATK and DEF. "Light and Darkness Dragon's" second effect will activate normally during following turns, and if it gained 500 ATK and DEF the gained ATK and DEF becomes a loss of 500 ATK and DEF.
- Example A: Player A activates "Reverse Trap" in his Main Phase 1. Afterwards, he Tribute Summons "Light and Darkness Dragon". Player B activates "Bottomless Trap Hole". "Light and Darkness Dragon's" effect activates, negating "Bottomless Trap Hole" and gaining 500 ATK and DEF. During the Battle Phase, Player A attacks with "Light and Darkness Dragon". Player B activates "Sakuretsu Armor". "Light and Darkness Dragon's" second effect does not activate and it is destroyed by "Sakuretsu Armor".[17]
Mentions in Other Rulings
- Consecrated Light: You can Summon "Light and Darkness Dragon" while "Consecrated Light" is on the field. Once it is on the field, it will be unable to attack.
- DNA Checkup: If the targeted monster has multiple Attributes, like "Light and Darkness Dragon" you only refer to the Attribute printed on the card when resolving "DNA Checkup".
- Destruction Jammer: "Destruction Jammer" can be chained when "Light and Darkness Dragon's" effect to Special Summon a monster is activated, but not if the owner of "Light and Darkness Dragon" has no monsters on their side of the field.
- Doomcaliber Knight: If "Light and Darkness Dragon" and "Doomcaliber Knight" are face-up on the field when a Spell or Trap Card is activated, "Light and Darkness Dragon's" effect is chained to the Spell or Trap Card and "Doomcaliber Knight's" effect is chained to "Light and Darkness Dragon".
- Gozen Match: Monsters with multiple Attributes, like "Light and Darkness Dragon" are sent to the Graveyard when "Gozen Match" resolves.
- Gozen Match: While "Gozen Match" is face-up on the field, you can Summon monsters with multiple Attributes, such as "Light and Darkness Dragon" or "Elemental Mistress Doriado", but they will be immediately sent to the Graveyard.
- Lightsworns: If the effect of a “Lightsworn” monster to send cards from the top of your Deck to your Graveyard during the End Phase is negated by the effect of "Light and Darkness Dragon," that “Lightsworn” monster’s effect activates again in the same End Phase.
- Solemn Judgment: "Solemn Judgment" cannot negate a Special Summon if it results from the activated effect of a monster card, like ... "Light and Darkness Dragon" ....
- Super Polymerization: If "Super Polymerization" is activated while "Light and Darkness Dragon" is face-up on the field, "Light and Darkness Dragon's" effect does not activate.
Judge List Rulings
- "Light and Darkness Dragon" cannot negate the Continous Effects of Monster Cards. These types of effects do not "activate" and do not use the Chain, so there is no opportunity for "Light and Darkness Dragon" to chain.[17]
- If "Light and Darkness Dragon" was equipped to "Allure Queen LV7" and a monster with higher Attack attacks "Allure Queen LV7", "Light and Darkness Dragon" would be destroyed and sent to the Graveyard. This would activate its third effect. Since the effect activates in the Graveyard, its owner will activate the effect.[17]
- "Light and Darkness Dragon" effect will not activate against the effect of "Amazoness Swords Woman", because this is a Continuous Effect.[17]
- Any ATK or DEF "Light and Darkness Dragon" lost with its effect before "Angel O7" is Tribute Summoned will remain lost. While "Angel O7" remains face-up on the field, "Light and Darkness Dragon's" second and third effects cannot activate.[17]
- If you activate the first effect of "Cyber Valley" when it is attacked by your opponent's "Light and Darkness Dragon", "Cyber Valley" is removed from play as a cost to activate it. "Light and Darkness Dragon's" effect is chained. Since this chain is in response to the attack of "Light and Darkness Dragon", cards that respond to the attack of your opponent's monster can be activated. So it is possible to chain "Mirror Force" to "Light and Darkness Dragon's" effect in this case. "Mirror Force" resolves first and destroys "Light and Darkness Dragon". "Light and Darkness Dragon's" effect disappears. "Cyber Valley's" effect resolves last, letting you draw 1 card and end the Battle Phase ("Light and Darkness Dragon's" third effect will activate at the end of the Battle Phase).[17]
- When you activate "Cyber Valley's" third effect, "Cyber Valley" and 1 card from your hand are not removed from play until "Cyber Valley's" third effect resolve. As such, everytime it is negated by "Light and Darkness Dragon" it will remain in play and you won't lose a card from your hand.[17]
- When "D.D. Warrior Lady" destroys "Light and Darkness Dragon" by battle, "Light and Darkness Dragon's" effect will activate and it will negate "D.D. Warrior Lady's" effect if it has enough ATK and DEF.[17]
- If you activate "Dark Nephthys'" effect from your hand while "Light and Darkness Dragon" is face-up on the field, the two DARK monsters are removed from play to pay the cost for "Dark Nephthys'" Ignition Effect and "Light and Darkness Dragon's" effect is chained. Assuming "Light and Darkness Dragon" has enough ATK & DEF, it negates "Dark Nephthys'" effect. "Dark Nephthys" remains in the hand and isn't placed into the Graveyard until its effect is resolved. Since its effect is negated, it remains in the player's hand.[17]
- When "Destiny Hero - Plasma" activates its effect to Equip the "Light and Darkness Dragon", "Light and Darkness Dragon's" second effect will activate. "Light and Darkness Dragon's" effect will be negated when it resolves, so it will not be able to negate "Destiny Hero - Plasma's" effect. "Destiny Hero - Plasma" will then be equipped with "Light and Darkness Dragon".[17]
- When the Spell Card is activated, "Light and Darkness Dragon" will immediately chain its effect. By doing so, it prevents "Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8" from chaining with its effect, because Horus must chain to the Spell Card it intends to negate, and that is not possible now.[17]
- When "Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer" attacks a face-up Attack Position "Light and Darkness Dragon" and destroy it by battle, the Trigger Effect [sic?] of "Light and Darkness Dragon" will still activate in response to "Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer's" effect and it will negate Kycoo's effect.[17]
- When "Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress'" effect is activated, "Light and Darkness Dragon's" effect is chained. Assuming its ATK and DEF are high enough, "Light and Darkness Dragon" will negate "Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress'" effect. Lyla does not shift into Defense Position or destroy the selected Spell/Trap Card. Since "Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress" is in Attack Position, it can activate its again. The process can be repeated until "Light and Darkness Dragon's" ATK and DEF are too low to negate Lyla's effect.[17]
- "Light and Darkness Dragon" will negate "Necro Gardna's" effect.[17]
- If "Necrovalley" is acive [sic] on the field, the entire third effect of "Light and Darkness Dragon" would be negated, so the player would not destroy every card they control or Special Summon the monster targeted in their Graveyard.[17]
- You can chain "Prime Material Dragon's" effect to "Light and Darkness Dragon's" third effect, then "Light and Darkness Dragon" would not destroy its owner's cards and it would not Special Summon the selected monster.[17]
- If "Light and Darkness Dragon" is destroyed during the Damage Step, it would not be possible negate its Special Summon effect with "Royal Oppression". If "Light and Darkness Dragon" is destroyed during any other game phase, it would be possible activate the effect of the "Royal Oppression" to negate "Light and Darkness Dragon's" Special Summon effect. (Remember that both players can use the effect of "Royal Oppression", as stated in its text.)[17]
- When "Light and Darkness Dragon" negates "Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter's" Flip-Effect, the targeted card is not destroyed and the player does not send 3 cards from the top of their Deck.[17]
- If "Light and Darkness Dragon" is Summoned or flipped face-up while "Skill Drain" is active, "Light and Darkness Dragon’s" first effect will be negated. Its second effect will still activate whenever a Spell, Trap, or effect of an Effect Monster is activated, but the effect of "Light and Darkness Dragon" will be negated so the activation of the Spell, Trap, or effect of Effect Monster will not be negated and "Light and Darkness Dragon" will not lose ATK or DEF. Its third effect that activates when it is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard will not be negated because this effect activates and resolves while "Light and Darkness Dragon" is not on the field.[17]
- If the Summon of "Light and Darkness Dragon" is negated by "Solemn Judgment", then "Light and Darkness Dragon's" third effect will activate, because it is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard by "Solemn Judgment".[17]
