TCG Rulings[]
- “Koa’ki Meiru Powerhand” only negates a monster’s effect while they are battling. This means that it only negates effects that activate on the field, or are continuous effects while on the field. Effects that activate in the Graveyard like “Sangan” are not negated.[1]
- If “Koa’ki Meiru Powerhand” is destroyed by battle, its effect stops working from that point. Example: if “Koa’ki Meiru Powerhand” battles “Divine Knight Ishzark,” the effect of “Koa’ki Meiru Powerhand” stops as soon as it is destroyed, and it will be removed from play [sic] by the effect of “Divine Knight Ishzark.”[1]
- The effect negation ability of “Koa’ki Meiru Powerhand” begins when an attack target is declared. If “Koa’ki Meiru Powerhand” declares an attack on “Cyber Valley,” and the controller of “Cyber Valley” removes it from play [sic], “Cyber Valley” will be removed from play [sic] but the controller will not draw a card, and the Battle Phase will not end, because the effect was activated on the field and is negated by “Koa’ki Meiru Powerhand.” (Also, since the number of potential attack targets has changed in this case, a replay will occur.)[1]
OCG Rulings[]
- The effect of "Koa'ki Meiru Powerhand" will only negate effects which activate on the field, or Continuous Effects which are applied for as long as the monster remains on the field. It cannot negate effects which activate in the Graveyard, like the effect of "Sangan".[2]
- If "Koa'ki Meiru Powerhand" battles with "Winged Kuriboh LV10" and "Winged Kuriboh LV10" activates its effect, then the effect will still be negated because it activated on the field, even though "Winged Kuriboh LV10" is no longer face-up on the field.[2]
- If "Koa'ki Meiru Powerhand" is destroyed by battle, then from damage calculation - when "Koa'ki Meiru Powerhand" is considered destroyed by battle - onward, it can no longer negate effects.[2]

- While your hand is revealed by the effect of "Respect Play"/"Ceremonial Bell"/etc, you cannot perform "reveal 1 Normal Trap Card from your hand." as a Maintenance Cost for "Koa'ki Meiru Powerhand". You must either perform either "send 1 "Iron Core of Koa'ki Meiru" to the Graveyard" or "destroy this card".[16]
- While "Macro Cosmos" is activate, you cannot perform "send 1 "Iron Core of Koa'ki Meiru" to the Graveyard" as a Maintenance Cost for "Koa'ki Meiru Doom". You must either perform either "reveal 1 Fiend-Type monster from your hand." or "destroy this card".[17]
- The text "During each of your End Phase, destroy this card unless you send 1 "Iron Core of Koa'ki Meiru" from your hand to the Graveyard." of "Koa'ki Meiru Valafar" is a Maintenance Cost. It cannot be negated by the effect of "Skill Drain", so you must still pay the Maintenance Cost during your Standby Phases [sic].[18]
