TCG Rulings
- When your "Hino-Kagu-Tsuchi" inflicts Battle Damage to your opponent, he / she discards his / her hand before drawing in their next Draw Phase. If their next Draw Phase is skipped, they discard at the start of the Standby Phase. If the Draw Phase and Standby Phase are skipped, they discard at the start of Main Phase 1.[1]
- The opponent cannot activate any effects at the start of their turn before they discard their hand for the effect of "Hino-Kagu-Tsuchi".[1]
Mentions in Other TCG Rulings
- Destructive Draw: You must have no cards in your hand when you enter your Draw Phase to use this card's effect. Even if you discard your hand before you draw (due to the effect of "Hino-Kagu-Tsuchi", etc.), you cannot use this card's effect.
- Gemini Imps: “Gemini Imps” effect cannot be activated to negate “Hino-Kagu-Tsuchi's” effect, because “Hino-Kago-Tsuchi's” effect activates during the Damage Step when it inflicts Battle Damage to a player’s Life Points.
- Magical Blast: Note that the effect of "Hino-Kagu-Tsuchi" resolves before the Draw Phase, so you could activate the effect of "Magical Blast" after his effect resolves.
- Skill Drain: If "Hino-Kagu-Tsuchi's" effect is activated, and then "Skill Drain" is activated later, "Hino-Kagu-Tsuchi's" effect is not negated and the opponent must discard his/her hand during their next Draw Phase. But if "Skill Drain" is active at the time "Hino-Kagu-Tsuchi's" effect activates, then the effect is negated.
Spirit Monster rulings
TCG Rulings
- Spirit is not a monster Type; you cannot declare "Spirit" for the effect of "DNA Surgery".[2]
- Spirit Monsters are still Effect Monsters.[2]
- A Spirit Monster must be face-up on the field during the End Phase for it to return to the owner's hand. If it was destroyed or removed from play, it will not return to the owner's hand.[2]
- A Spirit Monster will return to the owner's hand during the End Phase, even if the opponent played it from their hand (through the effect of "Exchange".)[2]
Mentions in Other Rulings
- Divine Wrath: You can activate "Divine Wrath" when a Spirit Monster is returned to the owner’s hand by its own effect, and the Spirit Monster will be destroyed and sent to the Graveyard.
OCG Rulings
- The negating effect of "Divine Fowl King Alector" does not end during the End Phase. The effects of the targeted card remains negated during the entire turn.[3]
- Example: The effects of Spirit Monsters, "Majestic Mech - Goryu", and "Jain, Lightsworn Paladin" will activate during the End Phase, but they will be negated and resolve without effect.
- During the End Phase, the player chooses when to have the effect of "Forbidden Chalice" stop applying.[4]
- Example: When a Spirit Monster is affected by "Forbidden Chalice", you can choose to activate the effect of the Spirit Monster to return to the hand before you stop applying the effect of "Forbidden Chalice". The Spirit Monster's effect will be negated.[4]
