OCG Rulings[]
- This is a Normal Summon monster.[1]
On Special Summoning[]
- If you control a "Dark World" monster that is originally owned by your opponent, then you can return that monster to the hand to Special Summon "Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World" from your Graveyard. In this case, the "Dark World" monster is returned to your opponent's hand.[2]
- If "Degenerate Circuit" is active, then you cannot return cards on the field back to the hand, so you cannot Special Summon "Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World" from the Graveyard.[3]
- If "Goldd, Wu-Lord of Dark World" is declared for "Prohibition" and cannot be played, then you can still return it to the hand for to Special Summon "Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World".[4]
- If "Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World" is destroyed by battle by "Dark Ruler Ha Des", then you cannot Special Summon "Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World" from the Graveyard through its effect.[5]
On Destroying[]
- The effect activates even if this card is discarded during the Damage Step.[1]
- The text of "Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World" specifies that it must be discarded from the hand to the Graveyard by a card effect. Thus, if it is discarded as a cost for "Raigeki Break" or "Lightning Vortex", then you cannot activate the effect.[6]
- If your "Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World" is discarded by your opponent's card effect, then "Solemn Warning" or "Royal Oppression" can be Chained to the effect. However, if your "Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World" is discarded by your own effect, then neither "Solemn Warning" nor "Royal Oppression" may be Chained.[7]
- The effects of "Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World" are not treated as resolving simultaneously. First you select one card on the field and destroy it, and then you look at one card in your opponent's hand, and then (if the card is a Monster Card) you Special Summon this card to your field. Thus, after resolving the whole effect, it is treated as "when a monster is Special Summoned".[8]
- Suppose that this card is discarded by an opponent's card effect. If you cannot destroy the targeted card, then neither look at one of your opponent's cards nor Special Summon that card.[9]
Dark World Rulings[]
TCG Rulings
Judge Program Forum Rulings[]
These Ruling(s) have not been confirmed as applicable to the TCG.[Notes 1] |
- Discarding 1 card is part of "Drill Warrior"'s effect, it is not a cost. So, if "Broww, Huntsman of Dark World" is discarded, "Broww, Huntsman of Dark World" is being discarded by an effect. It is also a mandatory effect, so it will not miss the timing. The effect of "Broww, Huntsman of Dark World" will start a new Chain, and once it resolves, the owner will draw a card.[10]
OCG Rulings[]
- If you discard multiple "Dark World" monsters simultaneously, such as discarding "Goldd, Wu-Lord of Dark World" and "Sillva, Warlord of Dark World" with "Graceful Charity", you can choose the order in which the effects activate.[11]
- When discarded by a cost, the effect of "Dark World" monsters like "Goldd, Wu-Lord of Dark World" and "Sillva, Warlord of Dark World" do not activate.[12]
- "Fabled Raven" will activate the effect of "Dark World" monsters, like "Sillva, Warlord of Dark World".[13]
- The effect of a monster like "Sillva, Warlord of Dark World" only activates when it is "discarded to the Graveyard" from the hand by a card effect. The effects of "Hand Destruction" and "Veil of Darkness" "send to the Graveyard" the cards - this is not the same as "discard to the Graveyard". Thus, if a monster like "Sillva, Warlord of Dark World" is sent to the Graveyard by these effects, then you cannot activate its effect.[14]
- If a player discards one card to negate the effect of "Jurrac Gallim", then it is treated as the player discarding by the effect of an opponent's card.[15]
- Example: If you discard "Goldd, Wu-Lord of Dark World" to negate the effect of the opponent's "Jurrac Gallim", then "Goldd, Wu-Lord of Dark World" is treated as being "discarded by the effect of an opponent's card", so you can select and destroy two cards on the opponent's side of the field.[15]
- If you discard from your hand because of the effect of a "General Raiho of the Ice Barrier" your opponent controls, then it is treated as you discarding from your hand by the effect of an opponent's card.[16]
- Example: If you discard "Goldd, Wu-Lord of Dark World" for the effect of the opponent's "General Raiho of the Ice Barrier", then "Goldd, Wu-Lord of Dark World" is treated as being "discarded by the effect of an opponent's card", so you can select and destroy up to two cards on the opponent's side of the field.[16]
- If "Broww, Huntsman of Dark World" is not in the Graveyard when its effect is resolving - for example, "D.D. Crow" was Chained - then you can still draw a card(s) from your Deck. Also, if a monster like "Goldd, Wu-Lord of Dark World" is discarded by a card effect, then if "Goldd, Wu-Lord of Dark World" is not in the Graveyard when resolving its effect, then it cannot be Special Summoned.[17]
- If the opponent activates "Dragged Down into the Grave" and has you discard "Goldd, Wu-Lord of Dark World", then you can apply the "you can select up to 2 cards your opponent controls and destroy them" effect of "Goldd, Wu-Lord of Dark World".[18]
- If "Goldd, Wu-Lord of Dark World" is discarded during the Damage Step, such as when "Spirit Reaper" or "Brron, Mad King of Dark World" inflict Battle Damage, then you can activate its effect and Special Summon it to the field.[19]
- If multiple "Dark World" monsters are discarded simultaneously, for example, by "Card Destruction" or "Beckoning Light", then the original owner of those "Dark World" monsters can activate their effects in a Chain, in any order that he wants.[20]
- If "Goldd, Wu-Lord of Dark World" (etc.) is discarded by a card effect, then you can activate "Royal Oppression" in Chain to the effect which Special Summons "Goldd, Wu-Lord of Dark World" in order to negate the effect.[21]
- Suppose that you discard "Goldd, Wu-Lord of Dark World" and "Broww, Huntsman of Dark World" simultaneously, and have their effects activate with "Goldd, Wu-Lord of Dark World" as Chain Links 1 and "Broww, Huntsman of Dark World" as Chain Link 2. Here, you cannot activate "Royal Oppression" as Chain Link 3.[21]
- Suppose that you discard "Goldd, Wu-Lord of Dark World" and "Sillva, Warlord of Dark World" simultaneously, and have their effects activate as Chain Links 1 and 2. If "Royal Oppression" is activated as Chain Link 3, then it will only negate the effect on Chain Link 2. It cannot negate the effect on Chain Link 1. Furthermore, you cannot interrupt the Chain by activating "Royal Oppression" in between Chain Link 1 and 2.[22]
Previously Official Rulings[]
These TCG rulings were issued by Upper Deck Entertainment and have since been deemed unofficial by Konami.[23] They were previously considered official, but may or may not necessarily hold true nowadays. |
- The following rulings apply to “Beiige, Vanguard of Dark World”, “Broww, Huntsman of Dark World”, “Sillva, Warlord of Dark World” and “Goldd, Wu-Lord of Dark World”.[24]
- The effects of these cards are Trigger Effects that can be chained to.[24]
- These effects only activate if the cards are discarded by a card effect. They will not activate if discarded for the cost of a card like “Lightning Vortex”, “Raigeki Break”, “Tribe-Infecting Virus”, or “Infernal Incinerator”. They will not activate if sent to the graveyard by a card effect like “Last Turn” or “Chaos Emperor Dragon – Envoy of the End”.[24]
- If these cards are discarded by your opponent’s card effect, both parts of their effects resolve in a single chain link. If “Divine Wrath” is chained to these effects, it will negate both parts.[24]
- The effects of these cards activate in the Graveyard, so “Skill Drain” will not negate their effects.[24]
- These effects can activate in the Damage Step, if discarded by the effect of a card like “Don Zaloog”.[24]
- If these monsters are discarded by a card effect in the middle of a chain, or in the middle of a card effect like “Dragged Down into the Grave”, their effects will activate after the current chain resolves. They cannot miss the timing.[24]
- If these cards are discarded from your hand by a card effect while "Macro Cosmos" is on the field, their effects will not activate because they were not discarded to the Graveyard.[24]
Mentions in Other Rulings[]
- Dark World Lightning: Discarding 1 card is part of the effect of “Dark World Lightning”, it is not a cost. (So you can use it to activate the effects of “Dark World” monsters, for example.)
- Full Salvo: If you send a “Dark World” monster to the Graveyard for the effect of “Full Salvo”, its effects do not activate because it was not “discarded”.
- Gateway to Dark World: This card targets 1 “Dark World” monster in your Graveyard.
- The Forces of Darkness: “The Forces of Darkness” targets 2 “Dark World” monsters in the Graveyard. If “Disappear” is chained to remove from play 1 of the targeted monsters, the other 1 is still returned to your hand.
