Gemini Monsters Rulings
| The OCG rulings on this card's rulings page contradict its TCG rulings.
Differences |
TCG Rulings
- The second Normal Summon is treated the same as any other Normal Summon, so cards that may be activated in response to a Normal Summon may be activated now, such as "Torrential Tribute" or the effect of "Mysterious Puppeteer".
- If the Gemini monster you have on the field is Level 5 or higher, you do NOT need to Tribute monsters again for this Normal Summon.
- You can use your standard, once-per-turn, Normal Summon or a Normal Summon granted by a card’s effect, such as "Ultimate Offering".
- When you Normal Summon a Gemini monster that you already have on the field, if it now has an Ignition Effect you can activate it at that time, just like other monsters that have Ignition Effects ("Exiled Force", etc.)
- When a card’s effect refers to Gemini monsters (without quotes), it does NOT mean cards with "Gemini" in the card name, such as "Gemini Elf" or "Gemini Summoner".
- Counters on the Gemini Monster Card will remain on it after you Normal Summon it again. Equip cards will also remain equipped.[1]
- The Gemini Monster Card remains on the field. It is not picked up or moved anywhere in this process.[1]
- Gemini Monsters are treated as Effect Monster Cards while in a player's hand or Deck.[2]
- "Pulling the Rug" cannot be used to negate the second Normal Summon of a Gemini Monster, since the effect cannot be chained.[3]
Mentions in Other Rulings
- Black Garden: If you have a Gemini Monster on the field and you Normal Summon it to change it into an Effect Monster, "Black Garden's" first effect activates. It will halve the Gemini Monster's ATK and Special Summon a "Rose Token" onto your opponent's side of the field. If the Gemini Monster's ATK had already been halved by "Black Garden" when it was previously Normal or Special Summoned, it is halved again.
- Debris Dragon: If "Debris Dragon" Special Summons a Gemini Monster, the Gemini Monster's effect that makes it a Normal Monster is negated, so the Gemini Monster is considered an Effect Monster.
- Majestic Star Dragon: If you negate the effect of a Gemini monster that is being treated as a Normal Monster, you cannot activate its effect. If you negated the effect of a Gemini Monster after it's been Normal Summoned again, you cannot activate the negated effect because "Majestic Star Dragon" cannot be Summoned twice.
- Natural Tune: If a Gemini Monster is targeted by “Natural Tune” and becomes an Effect Monster, it is still treated as a Tuner.
OCG Rulings
- Summoning a Gemini Monster again does not use a chain.[4]
- Normal Summoning a Gemini Monster to have it treated as an Effect Monster is not a different type of Summon rule. It is an act where you Normal Summon the monster once again when it's face-up on the field.[4]
- Since it is a Normal Summon, you can activate cards like "Trap Hole" when a Gemini Monster is Summoned again.[4]
- When a high-level Gemini Monster is Summoned again, you do not have to offer Tributes again for the Normal Summon.[5]
- You can activate "Solemn Judgment" or "Horn of Heaven" against a Gemini Summon to negate the Summon and destroy the Gemini Monster. Afterwards, the Gemini Monster is not considered to be sent from the field to the Graveyard.[6]
- A Gemini Monster does not leave the field when you Summon it again. All Equip Cards will remain equipped to the Gemini Monster after it is summoned to be treated as an Effect Monster. Effects such as "Premature Burial"'s destruction effect will still apply if "Premature Burial" is destroyed, even if the monster has been summoned to be treated as an Effect Monster.[7]
- You cannot Gemini Summon a Gemini Monster which is already being treated as an Effect Monster.[8]
- When a Gemini Monster which has been Gemini Summoned is sent to the Graveyard, it is treated as a Normal Monster.[9]
- When a Normal Gemini Monster is face-up on the field in Defense Position, when you Gemini Summon it, it remains in face-up on the field in Defense Position.[10]
- If a Gemini Monster activates an effect (like "Doom Shaman" activating his effect to Special Summon a monster) and the Gemini Monster is removed from the field or flipped face-down, then the effect is not negated (unless the effect specifically requires the Gemini Monster to remain face-up on the field).[11]
- When a Gemini Monster is removed from play by "Interdimensional Matter Transporter", when it returns, it is treated as a Normal Monster that has not been Gemini Summoned.[12]
- If the effect of "Tualatin" is preventing you from Normal Summoning, then you cannot Normal Summon a Gemini Monster like "Chthonian Emperor Dragon" again to have it treated as an Effect Monster.[13]
- If "Neo-Spacian Dark Panther" copies a Gemini Monster, he will be treated as a Normal Monster. You will have to Gemini Summon him to get his effect.[14]
- When "Secrets of the Gallant" targets a Normal Gemini Monster, and you Gemini Summon the monster, you still apply the effect of "Secrets of the Gallant".[15]
- When "Ceasefire" is activated:[16]
- If the Gemini Monster is face-down, it is flipped face-up, you inflict damage, and then the Gemini Monster's effect applies and it is treated as a Normal Monster. Because of this, it counts as an Effect Monster, and contributes to the damage dealt.
- If the Gemini Monster is face-up and a Normal Monster, it does not contribute to the damage dealt. Also, if the only monsters on the field are face-up Normal Gemini Monsters, you cannot activate "Ceasefire".
- If the Gemini Monster is face-up and an Effect Monster, it contributes to the damage dealt.
- When "Dark Ruler Ha Des" destroys a Gemini Monster, its effect is negated and it is treated as an Effect Monster while in the Graveyard.[17]
- You can equip a Normal Gemini Monster with "Amulet of Ambition", but not an Effect Gemini Monster. If the Normal Gemini Monster is Gemini Summoned, then "Amulet of Ambition" is destroyed.[18]
- When an Effect Gemini Monster is flipped face-down, it is treated as a Normal Monster when it is flipped face-up. You must Gemini Summon it again to get the effect.[19]
- You cannot change a Gemini Summon a Gemini Monster and then change its Battle Position during the same turn. However, you can change its Battle Position and then Gemini Summon it.[20]
- Versus "Skill Drain":[21]
- Normal Gemini Monsters have their effects negated, and are treated as Effect Monsters. They do not gain their effects that are gained when Gemini Summoned. You cannot Gemini Summon such a monster.
- Effect Gemini Monsters have their effects negated. When "Skill Drain" is removed, the Gemini Monster is still treated as an Effect Monster and regains its effect.
- "Silent Doom" will prevent a Gemini Monster from attacking, even after it has been Gemini Summoned.[22]
- If a Gemini Monster is Summoned by "Call of the Haunted", and you Summon it again so that it becomes an Effect Monster, it is still targetted by "Call of the Haunted".[23]
- You can use "Ultimate Offering" to Gemini Summon a Gemini Monster.[24]
- If "Natural Tune" targets a Gemini Monster and afterwards the monster is Normal Summoned a second time and treated as an effect monster, then the Gemini Monster is still treated as a Tuner Monster. Similarly, if an effect later makes the targeted monster Level 5 or higher, then the effect of "Natural Tune" is still applied and the monster is still treated as a Tuner Monster.[25]
- After a Gemini Monster is Special Summoned by an effect like "Monster Reborn" and then is Normal Summoned a second time, the Gemini Monster is still considered to have been Special Summoned. Thus, the effect of "Koa'ki Meiru Tornado" will still destroy the Gemini Monster.[26]
- If a Gemini Monster already has the effect listed by the "●", then you cannot Normal Summon it again.[27]
- If "Debris Dragon" Special Summons a Gemini Monster, then the "treated as a Normal Monster" effect of the Gemini Monster is negated. The Gemini Monster is not treated as a Normal Monster, so you cannot Normal Summon it a second time.[28]
- You may not select a Gemini Monster that is being treated as a Normal Monster as a target for the effect of "Majestic Star Dragon" which negates effects. If "Majestic Star Dragon" negates the effect of a Gemini Monster like "Gigaplant" or "Doom Shaman", then the Gemini Monster no longer has its effect which is listed by the "●", so therefore "Majestic Star Dragon" may not activate the Gemini Monster's effect which is listed by the "●".[29]
- "Orichalcos Shunoros" may be Special Summoned when a Gemini Monster you control is destroyed by battle while it is being treated as a Normal Monster.[30]
- "One-Hundred Eye Dragon" may also gain the effects of Fusion Monsters, Ritual Monsters, Synchro Monsters, Toon Monsters, and Spirit Monsters. However, "One-Hundred Eye Dragon" cannot remove from play a Normal Monster from the Graveyard, so you cannot target a Gemini Monster in your Graveyard.[31]
