OCG Rulings[]
- Even if "Dark Paladin" is sent to the Graveyard after being Fusion Summoned, it cannot be Special Summoned by the effect of "Monster Reborn".[1]
- The effect "This card gains 500 ATK for each Dragon-Type monster on the field or in either player's Graveyard." is a Continuous Effect.[1]
- If the number of Dragon-Type monsters on the field or in either player's Graveyard changes, this card's ATK also changes.[1]
- The effect "During either player's turn, when a Spell Card is activated: You can discard 1 card; negate the activation, and if you do, destroy it. This card must be face-up on the field to activate and to resolve this effect." is a Quick Effect. (It does not target. Discarding 1 card is a cost to activate this effect. It can be activated during the Damage Step.)[1]
- If "Offerings to the Doomed"/"Raigeki Break"/etc is chained to the Spell/Trap Card-negating effect of "Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8"/"Dark Paladin"/"Sorcerer of Dark Magic"/"Gladiator Beast Heraklinos" so that "Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8" etc is not face-up on the field at resolution, then the Spell/Trap Card is neither negated nor destroyed.[2]
Previously Official Rulings[]
These TCG rulings were issued by Upper Deck Entertainment and have since been deemed unofficial by Konami.[3] They were previously considered official and can still be correct, as long as they follow the official gameplay rules, or unless Konami has issued a ruling that says otherwise. - "Dark Paladin" cannot be Special Summoned, EXCEPT by Fusion Summon. So you cannot Special Summon "Dark Paladin" using "Monster Reborn", etc., even if he was properly Summoned before. You cannot Special Summon "Dark Paladin" using "Magical Scientist", etc.
- You can use "substitute" Fusion Material Monsters such as "Goddess With the Third Eye", etc. to Fusion Summon "Dark Paladin".
- "Dark Paladin"'s Spell-negating effect is a Quick Effect, so it can be activated during your opponent's turn.
- You can activate "Dark Paladin"'s Spell-negating effect multiple times in the same chain.
- "Dark Paladin"'s Spell-negating effect can be chained to.
- "Dark Paladin"'s +500 ATK effect is a Continuous Effect. While "Skill Drain" is active, the effects of "Dark Paladin" are negated.
Mentions in Other Rulings
- Skill Drain: "Skill Drain" negates Quick Effects such as "Dark Paladin"...
- The Dark - Hex-Sealed Fusion / The Light - Hex-Sealed Fusion / The Earth - Hex-Sealed Fusion: This monster's second effect cannot be used to Special Summon Fusion Monsters that can only be Summoned by Fusion Summon, such as "Dark Paladin".
- Wave-Motion Cannon: Your opponent cannot...use "Dark Paladin"...when you send "Wave-Motion Cannon" from the field to the Graveyard. Your opponent CAN...use "Dark Paladin"...when you first activate "Wave-Motion Cannon" (meaning when you place it face-up on the field).
Out of Date
- If you activate "Dark Paladin"'s Spell-negating effect, and your opponent chains "Ring of Destruction" to destroy "Dark Paladin", the Spell Card is still negated even though "Dark Paladin" is destroyed.[Notes 1]
- If you activate "Dark Paladin"'s Spell-negating effect, and your opponent chains "Book of Moon" to flip "Dark Paladin" face-down, the Spell Card is still negated even though "Dark Paladin" is face-down.[Notes 1]
Notes[]
- ↑ 1.0 1.1 The latest print of "Dark Paladin" uses Problem-Solving Card Text, which states that it must be face-up on the field to resolve this effect.
