OCG Rulings[]
- The activation of the card "Battle-Scarred" can be performed at any time, except during the Damage Step.[1]
- When "Battle-Scarred" is activated it targets 1 face-up "Archfiend" monster in your Monster Zone.[1]
- The effect "Your opponent also pays the same Life Points that you pay for the selected monster during the Standby Phase" does not make a Chain Link. (If you pay LP during the Standby Phase for its maintenance cost, the opponent also pays those LP.)[1]
- The effect "If this card is removed from the field, destroy the selected monster" does not make a Chain Link. (It applies even during the Damage Step.)[1]
- The effect "When the selected monster is removed from the field, destroy this card" does not make a Chain Link. (It applies even during the Damage Step.)[1]
Previously Official Rulings[]
These TCG rulings were issued by Upper Deck Entertainment and have since been deemed unofficial by Konami.[2] They were previously considered official and can still be correct, as long as they follow the official gameplay rules, or unless Konami has issued a ruling that says otherwise. - If the Archfiend targeted by "Battle-Scarred" is flipped face-down, then the effect of "Battle-Scarred" disappears and "Battle-Scarred" remains on the field meaninglessly.
- You can select an Archfiend that doesn't require you to pay Life Points as a target for "Battle-Scarred" (such as "Summoned Skull", "Archfiend Soldier", or "Fiend Skull Dragon").
- When your opponent takes control of your Archfiend targeted by "Battle-Scarred", then your opponent must pay the cost for the Archfiend, and then pay the cost again because of "Battle-Scarred".
- When an Archfiend is equipped with "Heart of Clear Water", it is not destroyed if it was targeted by "Battle-Scarred" and "Battle-Scarred" is removed from the field.
- If your opponent doesn't have enough Life Points to pay for "Battle-Scarred", nothing happens to your opponent, you must still pay for the cost of your Archfiend, and "Battle-Scarred" remains on the field.
- If "Battle-Scarred" and "Pandemonium" are both active, neither player has to pay for Archfiend costs or for "Battle-Scarred".
