He Special Summons this card via the effect of Arkana's "Dark Magic Curtain" while Arkana uses the effect of "Dark Magic Curtain" to Special Summon "Dark Magician". Due to this card's effect, it gains 600 ATK since both players had a "Dark Magician" in their Graveyard. Unaware of this, Arkana uses "Dark Magician" to attack this card. This card then attacks directly, winning Yami Yugi the duel.
  • In episode 66, Yugi uses this card during his Duel against Strings while the latter was possessed by Marik Ishtar. He Tribute Summons this card by Tributing "Kuriboh". This activates "Slifer's" second mouth ability which would destroy this card due to it having less than 2000 DEF, but Yugi activates "Magical Hats" to hide his monster within one of four hats. The effect then destroys a hat, but it turns out to be empty. Later "Slifer" attacks the hat that this card was under, but Yugi activates "Magic Cylinder" and "Spellbinding Circle" to decrease the ATK of "Slifer" by 700 and redirect the attack to "Slifer", but Strings uses the effect of "Jam Defender" to let "Revival Jam" intercept the attack destroying it instead. On Strings' next turn, "Slifer" attacks and destroys this card.
  • In episode 74, this card appears within a series of flashbacks that show Yugi's first two Battle City Duels.

In the next episode, "Dark Magician Girl" was later targeted by the "Ghost of Dark Sanctuary". This card later attacks directly, but the "Ghost of Dark Sanctuary" negates the attack, inflicts damage to Yami Yugi equal to half of this card's ATK, and increases Yami Bakura's Life Points by the damage Yami Yugi took. Later "Gamma the Magnet Warrior" attacks directly as Yugi believed that was the monster that was free to attack. Yugi was correct, but Yami Bakura activates "Dark Spirit of the Silent" to negate the attack and force this card to attack directly instead. The "Ghost of Dark Sanctuary" then negates the attack, inflicts damage to Yami Yugi equal to half of this card's ATK, and increases Yami Bakura's Life Points by the damage Yami Yugi took. • In episode 117, Yami Yugi draws this card during his Duel against Noah Kaiba. He wished he could use the Deck Master Ability of "Kaiser Sea Horse" to Normal Summon it with no Tributes, but that would be impossible to do since the Deck Master Ability of "Kaiser Sea Horse" only works on LIGHT monsters. In the next episode, Yugi Tribute Summons this card by Tributing "Alpha The Magnet Warrior". Since there is a "Dark Magician" in Yugi's Graveyard, this card gains 300 ATK due to its effect. This card then attacks directly, but due to Noah having a huge amount of Life Points he barely felt anything. Later Yugi activates "Dark Renewal" to Special Summon this card from the Graveyard. By winning the Duel, Yami was able to conquer the darkness in his heart and regain control of his emotions.
