This card was first used by Seto Kaiba during his Duel against Yami Yugi, at the entrance of Pegasus Castle in episode 22 and chapter 101. Kaiba used this card in response to Yugi attacking "La Jinn the Mystical Genie of the Lamp" with his "Dark Magician". This redirected the attack to "Curse of Dragon", destroying it instead. In the next episiode Yugi destroys this card with "Mystic Box", so that way he could destroy "La Jinn" with "Dark Magician".

Seto used this card again in episode 121, during his duel against Gozaburo Kaiba. This time, "Ancient Lamp" had the same properties that it has in the OCG/TCG. It is set face-down and it is then destroyed by "Exodia Necross". Kaiba then brought it back with "Monster Reborn" on the last turn of the duel. Kaiba then used this card's effect to bring out "La Jinn the Mystical Genie of the Lamp" to the field. After Kaiba used "Soul Demolition" to remove from play the 5 "The Forbidden One" pieces from Gozaburo's Graveyard, he then tributed this card and "La Jinn the Mystical Genie of the Lamp" to summon his "Blue-Eyes White Dragon".

In episode 131, this card is seen in a series of flashbacks Kaiba has when he notes to himself that he always feels excited when he Duels against Yugi.

In the anime and manga, "Ancient Lamp" was initially a Continuous Trap Card. When the opponent attempted to attack "La Jinn the Mystical Genie of the Lamp" it redirected the attack to any other one of the opponents monsters.
